Biology degree with one science

I'm wanting to take biological sciences at university, but I only have one science at A-level being biology. And I am wondering if there are any universities that don't have maths or another science as an entry requirement.

What are your other subjects? I know places like Warwick want Biology, and one other which includes subjects like geography and geology. Again, Birmingham, York and Southampton includes geography, computer science and geology too. Sussex accepts biology with sports science (aka PE). You should also look at bath, as they include psychology, food tech, computer science, economics and a whole load of other stuff.

Northampton, Greenwich, Queen Mary’s (biology not biological science), Kent, Royal Holloway, Middlesex, Northumbria, Brighton, Cardiff, and Bournemouth take students with only biology.

This is only about 20 mins worth of searching so I’m sure you can find loads more too. Good luck xx

there are many nuances that should be taken into account when applying. At the very least, just think well what interests you the most. all other academic matters can be helped by teachers, writing services, tutors and manuals. the online paraphrasing service helped me out more than once, this can help to reveal the topic of work better and, of course, improve the quality of the text, which is very cool.

Hi @username5702753

It is great that you are considering studying Biology at University.

At the University of Hull, we offer Biology as a degree course, with the entry requirements of 120 UCAS Points (BBB). Applicants should have A level Biology/Applied Science at Grade C or above (or merit from relevant BTEC). Applicants taking the reformed A-level must also Pass the practical element.

Our course allows you to take modules from other subject areas, including human biology, biochemistry, geography and environmental science allowing you to build a course to suit your interests and ambitions.

Further details about our biology degree can be found on our website- https://www.hull.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/biology-bsc-hons

Hope this helps,

Great topic.
Hi there,

Having had a look, here is a list of some Unis across the UK for BSC Biological Sciences, with varied grade requirements that only require Biology as a science subject - there are many more than will require Biology and another science, for these normally social sciences are included (psychology, sociology etc) but I've left these out as I'm not sure what your other subjects are. There are also many BSc Biology degrees that will accept just Biology!

Aston University - BBB
Bournemouth - BCC-BBB
Brighton - BBC-BBB
Cardiff - AAB-AAA
Dundee - CCD-CCC
East Anglia - ABB
Kingston - BBC-ABB
Nottingham Trent - BCC-BBC
Reading - AAB
Wolverhampton - CCC

Hope this helps!

Hello username5702753,

Bournemouth University offers BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences and for this course we also offer a Foundation Year option. The September 2025 entry requirements for the Foundation Year are: 48–72 UCAS tariff points, all subjects are considered and there are no GCSE requirements. The Foundation Year is an additional year of study before you start your degree and when you successfully complete that year you will automatically progress onto the degree.

We are still taking applications now for September 2025 via UCAS and you can also book onto one of our Open Days to find out more about this course and what it's like to study at BU. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi there!

I did Biological sciences, with specialization in Medical Biology, at uni. My A-Levels were Biology, Chemistry and English literature. Maths is not a requirement for Kingston University Biological Sciences! Additionally, you can specialize in Medical or Molecular Biology. Most universities require one A-Level in Biology however it is worth checking the entry requirements of the universities you want to go to.

Hope this helps!
