You could do a study abroad year instead. Just make sure the uni you pick actually offers a study abroad to new Zealand for your course

Yeah, there should really be some sort of special UK student finance that covers those wanting to study abroad. I totally understand your pain as I want to study in the US or Australia more than ever. Many courses these days offer a year abroad which you can either work or do an extra year of education in. I hear some kids who got exceptionally high grades actually get paid by some international unis just to study at the school but for those like myself, that is not an option ; (
