Hi there

Its great to hear you may be joining us at Surrey GSA in 2022

I am a second year undergrad student studying Psychology here at Surrey. I can give you some more information about accommodation recommendations.

I was on Manor Park for my first year in Band D and this is about a 5 minute bus journey from campus (GSA) or 20/15 minute walk. Therefore, if you are on Manor Park you will have to walk to GSA or get the bus! The bus is frequent and you can buy a yearly bus pass for a decent price. There is some band D (ensuite) on Campus along with bands A, B and C I believe. The bands run from A-F with A being the cheapest and F being the most expensive. When you apply for accommodation you get to put down your preference in terms of bands however not an option on whether it'll be at Manor Park or on Campus. I would say look at this link provided so you can see what rooms you prefer and go from there :h:) ere is a link to see the accommodation in more details in terms of tours, prices etc. https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation and please see this link to see what the different bands consist of: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodati...-accommodation

A bit about my experience at Manor Park: My room (at Manor Park) has a desk, wardrobe, drawers, single bed and en-suite. I travelled to campus by bus (5 mins) or walking (25 mins) to attend my lectures on Stag Hill Campus. I didn't mind this journey, I actually liked being able to get a bus or walk to get fresh air. Therefore, if you are on Stag Hill for accommodation and need to travel to Manor Park the bus comes regularly and takes around 5 minutes or alternatively you can walk or even use bikes that you can rent on Campus.

Student Life: Firstly, I have found student life to be very welcoming from the moment I moved onto campus! Everyone I came across was very friendly and helped me whenever I needed help (students included). On campus, there is places you can study or just chill in such as The Nest or The Hive and the Library. Furthermore, there is many food outlets on campus such as a mini supermarket to be able to quickly get any essentials or to buy lunch. There is also a Starbucks and other food outlets such as Wates House and Hillside. Every week there is also a fresh fruit and veg market so you can get these at your door step without going to Tesco. There is a nightclub on campus called Rubix which is always putting on great events each week. With COVID Rubix has been put on hold, however hopefully it will make a return soon! The town centre night life is quieter compared to other unis however is still a good fun enviroment. As well as this, there is also so many societies and club you can join, this will help you to make more friends at university too Here is a link to see the full list of clubs and societies we have at Surrey - https://www.ussu.co.uk/getinvolved/clubs

Location: The University is about a 20 minute walk from Guildford town centre and 10 minute bus journey which has a variety of shops and many restaurants! My favourites are Positano and La Casita, so if you end up in Surrey make sure to check these out What I loved about Surrey is that the Uni isn't far from London. It is about a 34 minute train journey making trips to London quick and efficient. There is also a big Tesco that is about a 3-5 minute bus journey or 10 minute walk so it is easy to pick up your shopping for the week.

Standard of Teaching & Support: In the Psychology department, the department has always maintained a high standard. I feel as though I am really benefitting from the teaching here and learning new things. The lecturers have always been quick in helping me. They also have contact hours which you can attend and ask them any questions you may have. For other support around the uni, there is a health and wellbeing centre which can help with any needs such as sexual health, mental health or any queries you may have. There is also a Career service team that can help with CVs and cover letters and even interviews.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions. I am more than happy to help

Thanks Becca,Hopefully I pass the audition and gain an offer nxt yr.Do you know where most of the acting students get based in band c and d accommodation? Are students on similar courses housed together or is the accommodation a good mixture? The link you have sent for clubs is asking for sign in details is there anyway to view them without a campus log in?

Hi there

My fingers are crossed for you to pass! If you are in band C accommodation you will most definitely be on campus (stag hill) as that's where them bands are placed. However if you choose band D then there will be a chance of you being on campus (stag hill) but also at manor park, if that makes sense. If you are placed in accommodation that isn't suitable for you, you can apply to swap your room with someone so there is multiple options out there for you if you don't receive your top priority accommodation

In my accommodation we all did different subjects so there was a good mixture. This was the same for my friends too. However you may be with one or two people on your course. I guess it depends the way the university allocate the room, but I am sure there will be a good mixture for you to make many friends in your accommodation, on your course and via societies. As for the link, I have asked and unfortunately there is no way of seeing the societies. However there are 140+ societies here at Surrey so there's a huge variety of things on offer ranging from sports, music, baking, languages, countries etc

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions

Are students in post-graduate courses typically housed together? Or are the accommodations a complete mix from first year students through post-graduate?

HI there

Thank you for your questions. From what I know its generally mixed however I believe you may be able to state that you would prefer to be with post-graduates on your accommodation application if that's the case, I am not 100% how Surrey allocate the rooms but from what I know and experience it's generally mixed.. If you can't select a preference then when you get your room allocation you can apply for a room swap with a student or even talk to the university to see if you can be put in a accommodation with post-grads. Alternatively, if you want to be 100% then I suggest contacting our accommodation team, they may be able to help and give you some more information about rooms are allocated  Here are their contact details:

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any general

Hi, researching GSA and spotted your post and was curious if you went to GSA and if so how you were finding it? My son has been offered a place but doesn't know much about the BA Acting.
