I’ve really been struggling with my mental health since 2018/19 and it’s been getting to a really bad point. I cant tell my family about anything, well I did once and got a bad response but I’m 18 so I’m just wondering how I’d get some help from my GP? Because they know about my OCD and I was told to self refer myself to some places but I just wouldn’t be able to do this right now. Any help would be appreciated thanks

What I did was that I just told my GP that I had been struggling a lot with my mental health lately and that I was feeling really depressed, and would like to be referred to a mental health specialist. My GP referred me, and I started seeing the therapist I was referred to. After mentioning how I had been feeling pretty depressed for years and that I was wondering if meds might help they had one of their doctors evaluate me, and they put me on anti depressants. Five years later and my depression is pretty much gone (for the most part at least)

The GP is the primary contact for all health issues who can refer you to specialists and issue prescriptions. Go back and have another chat.

Why cant you self refer to those places? The GP wont know this unless you say.

There are few other paths unless you want to go private and pay for a Private GP, therapists/counsellors, etc.

You could look at websites like Sane and MIND for advice and support.
