Business Degree

Is it true that business degree is too basic and it's going to be difficult to get a job because there will be too many competitors from different majors?

Too basic for what sort of role? What are your career aspirations and interests? My guess is that you’ll be interested in possibly obtaining a business related graduate role on completion of your degree. In that regard, most graduate schemes are less concerned by your particular major than your class of degree and even the reputation of your university. Most graduate scheme set a 2:1 degree as their standard of entry. Further to that, graduate schemes for roles that require strong quantitative skills are more likely to favour STEM degrees or programs such as economics, which have a considerable quantitative element.

Without much information about your goals, other than to get a job, I would advise that you major in a subject in which you have a strong interest and also one which appeals to your individual strengths. This will maximise your chances of graduating with a 1st or 2:1. Barring the obvious (jobs which require specific training such as medicine, engineering or law), your class of degree will be of utmost importance in that regard. Also, consider what universities you’re likely to get into, look at their rankings and other factors including which one is the best fit for you as an individual.

All the best in your studies and future career.
Actually, their broadness just gives you more options

All organizations which are looking to recruit are businesses so they like like-minded employees who actually understand how businesses operate and their problems. When you compare business degrees to other courses like fine art and history they are far more desirable.

I don't know how trustable coursefindr is but they state business degrees come in 9th place out of all the degrees and 75% of employees are looking for that degree. Over 88% of business graduates are in full-time employment or further study 6 months after graduation.

Most people find that specializing in different areas of business towards their final years is the best option as it gives employees a reason to choose them over the many other business degree holders. Don't get me wrong, business degrees are very popular and there on pretty much every top 10 most popular degrees lists...
To cut it short, it's best to specialise.
