I have a binge-eating disorder and, a few years ago during Ramadan, I broke one of my fasts because I just could not control my urge to stuff my mouth with food. I repented right after and made up that fast. Do I still need to keep kaffara? Are people with eating disorders exempt from fasting?
Thanks!

Better to consult a scholar than post questions here for a random young layman to answer.

I could not find any ruling in relation to binge eating disorder and fasting, however it is dependent on a few factors.
Have you been medically diagnosed with an eating disorder?
What is the severity of the eating disorder?
Does refraining from food and drink cause severe physical illness/ symptoms?

I haven’t been medically diagnosed with it but it’s obvious I have a binge eating disorder. It started 3 years ago when I was also depressed. I’ve found that when I restrict myself from eating, that only triggers my disorder to the point when I binge on any food I can possibly find. It is harmful to my physical and mental health. I guess I just want to know whether this justifies me breaking one of my fasts during Ramadan? I also couldn’t find enough on this topic online.
