The US Capitol has been attacked by what appears at this point to be an individual with a vehicle. Reports suggest that a US Capitol Police Officer has been killed in the attack. The suspect is also dead after being shot by police, after running at them with a knife.

A few snippets that have been released so far on the BBC article:

Just after 13:00 local time, a suspect rammed a car into the North Barricade entrance to the Capitol.

The suspect then emerged with a knife and was shot after lunging towards police.

No known nexus to terrorism has been identified and the suspect was not previously known to police.

The suspect and one Capitol Hill police officer have both died. Another officer was injured.

The suspect has not yet been identified.

The attack comes less than three months after a violent mob stormed the Capitol on 6 January, seeking to overturn the presidential election result.

Barricades erected since that attack have begun to come down, but over 2,000 National Guard troops deployed since January remain on Capitol Hill.

Not enough guns for it to be a rabid Trumper! More likely it's a deranged nutter.

He's a self declared follower of the well known antiSemite of Louis Farrakhan and the nation of Islam, but at the moment they think its more likely to be a case of the ever more popular method of suicide by cop.

If he just wanted to die though, he could have just run at them with a knife.. didn’t need to drive into them and kill one
