Yh just started an entry level role 2 days ago, feeling great. Can be repetitive at times but it’s calm cos that’s what it’s like at the start I guess.

What skills do you think I'll need in order to be a great accountant?
Which part of accounting do you find fun? e.g. audit, taxation, consultancy + Why?

Why Larry? You could've said happy as Molly. Why must everything always be male?

To be a great accountant you need good data entry speed, fast with a keyboard, cos when you start you are going to do a lot of bookkeeping. Later on though you will need analytical and problem solving skills to produce financial statements to high quality, but it’s a process that you can learn, I’m sure. With experience and quals you can get there. Also you will need communication skills in order to advise clients who don’t have a finance background. In terms of what area I find most fun, I have only actually ever done bookkeeping so that is my only experience so far so don’t know about audit, tax etc. But bookkeeping is quite fun once you get into it.

Those I have met seem happy and also proud of their profession. There is an image of accountants being dull and boring, which seems to have been a legacy of the hatred directed towards them when cuts and savings have had to be made.

Are accountants happy? No. But the money helps make up for it.

I'd say external auditors are the least happy kind.

You did ask.
