Over the past few months my mental health has really started to effect everything I do, to the point it's now making me question my sexual orientation. I'm a girl, and every time I go out and meet my mates or even meet girls i dont know, i really struggle to give eye contact as i associate it with being gay (nothing against the LGBTQ community) but i just know thats not me. It's massively effecting how i socialise and i need your help. How do i overcome this fear?

Most people automatically assume that the people they meet are straight. Although I get it, it is of huge concern to you regardless of if you view it from a more logical perspective.

I think you should consider asking your GP for support. There are effective treatments available for anxiety disorders, if that is what you are struggling with.

Also, do you ever try playing devil's advocate with yourself- like so what if another girl mistakes you for being gay- what's the worst thats likely to happen

Homosexuality is relatively rare compared to heterosexuality therefore most people you meet will assume that you are heterosexual.
I wouldn't associate eye contact with homosexuality because everyone who isn't socially inept makes eye contact with others.
Even if people do think you are gay, it doesn't mean anything because you are not.

This has been really helpful to read, thank you <3

I'm just my own worst enemy and always seem to be finding something to worry about. This case just seems to be the worst and holding me back the most.

Thank you, this has really helped.

Just need other peoples' perspective on things when I'm worrying about something - always seems to help.
