Im getting braces fitted next week and my orthodontist told me I need interproximal reduction which he explained was the removal of some enamel between each tooth with a wire. Will this cause damage or rotting to the teeth? Is it a painful or uncomfortable procedure? Many thanks

Nothing that a dentist does will cause deliberate damage to the teeth. Shaving of a small amount of enamel is perfectly ok; they will only do it the tiniest amount. I had the bottom of my tooth shaved when I got my braces off as it was longer than the other. I felt pressure but no pain, and you can’t even tell. I wish you all the best, remember if you feel nervous try and communicate that with your dentist, but if you don’t feel able just take long deep breaths and find a happy place to go. Hope this helps
