I am writing a formal email to a French library.

I am opening it with Monsieur, Madam,

Does anyone know how best to close the email?

It really depends on how formal you want to be and what the content of your email is... perhaps 'cordialement' or 'bien a vous' (an accent grave on the a) or even 'cordiales salutations' if it's very formal. I'd say the first two are more on the level of colleagues who don't know each other very well rather than first contacts, but it's up to you. Don't use 'au revoir'.

Yeah, perhaps you're right! I have to admit that I write more than email in formal situations!
