Bio question pls answer

Why do a lot of nitrogen-fixing bacteria have adaptations to allow it to happen in anaerobic conditions????

Well question is most likely related to sewage or a lake so these bacteria exist in these environments with many other competitors like fish and algae
They all use oxygen for respiration to produce energy to survive
Eventually oxygen runs out so bacteria adapts to respire anaerobically to survive lack of oxygen while for example fishes only respire aerobic ally so the end up dyeing /decrease in population while bacteria continue to survive
