For this unit, you need a book called "BTEC National Health and Social Care Student Book 1: For the 2016 specifications (BTEC Nationals Health and Social Care 2016)" and starts from page 391

TASK ONE

A.P1 Explain how psychological perspectives are applied to the understanding of human development

For this, talk about what psychological theories say about human development, for example, the way we behave, the way we attach, the way we develop cognitively etc. You can talk about:

Explain how psychological perspectives can help us to understand anxiety, depression, for example what does the biologist perspective believe about depression? That it is inherited

A.M1 Analyse the contribution of psychological perspectives to the understanding of human development and behaviours

For this, expand upon P2 by discussing about how these different theories can be applied to your two service users (that you have chosen) specific behaviours such as anxiety, depression and how these theories can help health and social care professionals understand these specific human behaviours. For example, Sarah was emotionally and physically abused as a child, which has resulted in a low self-image and low self-esteem according to the behaviourist they believe that Sarah experienced too much punishment and not enough positive reinforcement.

B.P3 Explain how different factors influence human development and specific behaviours

Explain what factors influence human development and certain behaviours for example, physical factors, social, cultural and emotional factors, economic factors, environmental factors, physiological factors

B.P4 Explain the contribution of psychological perspectives to the management and treatment of different service users’ behaviours

Explain how psychological theories be applied to management and treatment of two service users that you have chosen and how this type of management that you have discussed will help your service users, so do one paragraph for management of behaviour and on paragraph for treatment of behaviour.

For example, for management of behaviour psychologist Aaron Beck believed that, since thoughts influence feelings and behaviours, it is necessary to identify negative thoughts and to challenge them, so that they can be replaced by more rational and positive thoughts this can be applied to Sarah as she has low self-image and low self-esteem by doing Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) CBT involves working on a one-to-one basis with a client to identify their negative thoughts and clients will be encouraged to keep a diary of their negative thoughts, including how these thoughts made them feel and what their behaviour was afterwards this will help Sarah to have more rational and positive thoughts

B.M2 Analyse the value of identifying factors influencing human development and behaviours in the application of psychological perspectives to the management and treatment of different service users’ behaviours.

Discuss why it is important to identify factors that influenced your two service user’s specific behaviours and human development so that health and social care professionals (that is you) can provide them the correct management and treat of their behaviours based psychological theories. For example, one of the factors that affected Sarah’s low self-image and low self-esteem is that she was emotionally and physically abused as a child therefore the best management for her is…. AB.D1 Evaluate the role of psychological perspectives in the understanding of human development and the management and treatment of service users’ behaviours

For this part you should treat it as a conclusion. Based on what you discussed, explain the role of psychological theories in understanding how your two service users developed and acquire specific behaviours. Then, discuss the role of psychological theories in providing management and treatment of your two service users.

C.P6 Explain how professionals use psychological perspectives to improve the social functioning of selected service users

Define social functioning

Then explain how professionals use psychological theories to help improve social functioning (that is being a part of society) of your two service users, for example, professionals can use conformity to majority influence which involves an individual temporarily changing their behaviour or stated views in order to be in line with other group members this can help Sarah to overcome low self-esteem and low self-image as she will be surrounded by professionals that are always being positive to her which leads to her thinking the same about herself

C.M1 Assess the impact of the use of psychological perspectives in local health and social care settings, in enabling professionals to enhance the social functioning of selected service users

Expand on P6 by explaining how this can affect the two service users (both in a positive and negative way) physically, emotionally, cognitively/intellectually and socially (PIES) (don’t worry if some of PIES are not applicable, you can skip them)

C.D2 Evaluate the application of psychological perspectives in local health and social care settings in enabling professionals to enhance the social functioning of selected service users

Explain what psychological perspectives may benefit or not benefit your two service users so that professionals can develop their social functioning, by explaining the pros and cons of each psychological perspective for your service users.

C. D3 Evaluate the importance of the psychological perspectives used in health and social care settings, in relation to understanding human development and managing and treating behaviours to enhance the social functioning of service users

This should be treated as a conclusion, so based on what you have discussed, why is it important to use psychological perspectives to understand human development and specific behaviours to develop social functioning of your two service users. Then, discuss why it is important to use psychological perspectives to managing and treating behaviours to develop social functioning of your two service users
