Moving for uni

How long did it take for you to settle in uni ? Even though I start in September I’m already starting to feel homesick 🤣. I plan to go to the same uni as my boyfriend if we both get out firm choices so maybe it won’t be as bad as I will have someone

Hi there!

I think its really natural to feel a bit apprehensive about going to University, since you are pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, so its going to be feel a bit difficult at times, and there is nothing wrong with that, many others will be feeling the exact same.

I think that it took me around half of the first year to properly settle down at University, its a huge change with lots of things going on. I found I really loved some weeks of the first term, and struggled in others. But by staying in contact with your family and friends back home you can keep feeling grounded, and they can help support you through this. As you learn more, meet new people, have new experiences you will start to absolutely love University I'm sure, and remember you can always head back home for a weekend if you are feeling home sick.

I wish you good luck in studies and I'm sure you will settle in fine once it comes to it

Hey!

I did my undergrad three hours away from my home city and I was homesick within the first few weeks. It wasn’t too far on the train if I wanted to go back home for the weekend. Everyone will be feeling exactly the same as you! I didn’t know anyone on my course but I met lots of people when I got to uni

It took me most of the first semester to try and get into a routine with living away from home, studying a new subject and socialising at uni. You'll have good weeks and bad weeks but that's all part of the uni experience. As @University of Liverpool Student Rep mentioned keep in touch with your family and friends as you'll be missing them!

I went back home for a weekend in October of my first semester at uni then didn't go home again until the Christmas break. I wanted to go home a lot in my first few weeks when I was feeling home sick but I decided to stay and get into a routine and I feel that really helped me to settle in.

You'll have the best time at uni! Good luck
