I've caught myself being a little bit complacent on my gap year - watching a bit too much TV (i.e. 8 hours a day) and I need to start keeping up with my subjects and reading the (rather ambitious) number of books I bought. Hopefully, I can shame myself into being less of a lazy bum.

Things to do
Books (no particular order)
Behave - Robert Sapolsky
The Vital Question - Nick Lane
Power, Sex, Suicide - Nick Lane
The Selfish Gene - Dawkins
Why Geese Don't Get Obese - Eric Widmaier

Other stuff
I started a course on Bayesian techniques over 6 months ago that I never got round to finishing - I'd like to finish that, since it was really interesting.

I need to recap A level bio and chem (and maybe *shudders* matrices and the other parts of A level maths I never revised). Probably get round to this closer to the start of my course.

I'll probably add stuff to the list if I can get most of this done, but time will tell. I'll probably aim for an hour a day to start off with, if I try to rush in I'll end up giving up.

I managed to finish just over a chapter of behave today, "seconds to minutes before". Some interesting stuff in there about the effects of race on our perception and behaviour. I might manage another chapter today since that one was short. I'm making tea tonight (and I haven't showered yet) though, so I might struggle.

In other news, the £200 I invested in DOGE back in February reached £1400 today, which is pretty neat. Who knew throwing your money away could be so profitable?

Somehow I've not done anything today? I woke up like 6 hours ago and I have no idea what I did with that time. Oops

I might need to start a thread like this soon, time is just vanishing at the minute and I don't have a clue what I spend all day doing

I had a technique once where I'd sleep on the floor instead. I can fall asleep anywhere that's the thing.

But in the morning, when you're in that "can't be bothered mood" and just keep tossing, turning and pulling the quilt over yourself... you can't do that on the floor, when you neither feel like falling asleep, or getting up. It's not comfortable. So then I would think "to hell with this" and actually get up.

Yeah, it's not ideal. I'm not sure how I manage to spend so long doing so little.

I'll give it a go (might have to clear some space on my floor first though )

Tasks for today:

1. Next chapter (and a half) of Behave - Days to months before

2. Get back into Bayesian techniques and methods (depending on how much I remember this could be recapping so far or starting where I left off). (Done about 2 hours of this, had to go back to the beginning but it was nice doing the basic examples again, I think I understood it better this time)

Haven't updated this for a couple days (I've been working nonstop so I'll give myself a pass)

Tasks for today:
- Finish chapter "Days to months before" from Behave

- Complete lessons Metropolis-Hastings and Gibbs Sampling from Bayesian Techniques and Methods - if I have enough time, complete "Assessing Convergence" as well.

Finally finished Gibbs Sampling, took a little while to get round to it but it's done now. Coding in R is hard because I keep accidentally writing in Python but I'm getting the hang of it. On to Behave
