Radnor or Mary Newman

Hi! I am choosing my accommodation at the moment, wondering which hall should I choose. Radnor is cheaper and a little bit more spacious but Mary Newman is closer to Uni and some facilities such as laundry room.

Which hall would you guys prefer?

Hi,
I'm going to be attending the University of Plymouth myself in September and after careful consideration and looking at what past students had said about the different halls of residence, I decided to go ahead with the Mary Newman halls of residence. At the end of the day, it's your decision to make. You need to think about what your main priority will be. For example, if you are more concerned about the monetary side of things, then your decision will ultimately be to go more towards a cheaper place. I looked up the distance between Radnor & Mary Newman and they are literally a five minute walk away (0.2 miles) from each other, so you shouldn't be concerned about the distance from the halls to the university. I can understand any concerns about laundry and that was one of my concerns, but you could look into any laundrettes in the area if you decide to apply for accommodation in one of the halls of residence a little further out from the Francis Drake halls laundry room. Ultimately, you need to think about which one feels more right to you. I know with the situation we're in right now, we can't go and look at the accommodation in person, but you can still have a look at the buildings and the surrounding areas online. I would also recommend looking at ratings of the halls online as there may be issues/concerns that have been raised by past students that help you make your final decision.

Sorry about my rather long-winded reply. I hope some of my ramblings have been helpful.

Dear Adele,

Thank you so much for your detail explanation, your ideas really help a lot  I will have a look on the rating as well as the view from the rooms and see which one I prefer more, thanks a lot

I was at Plymouth uni and went into mary newman and radnor and mary newman is not worth the money!! radnor is so nice and it's in a really nice courtyard type area, it's literally across the road from the uni
I'd choose radnor if I were you

Hi,
Even though I've already booked my accommodation at Mary Newman, I'm always interested to hear what other people think of it so that I can change to another halls of residence if needed. Would you mind telling me what you didn't like about Mary Newman and what you did like about Radnor?

Many thanks,
Adele

so it’s not that mary newman is bad, it’s not ! it’s just that radnor is exactly the same room quality if not better for a much much cheaper price. the price of mary newman is all about it’s location, but radnor is honestly less than a 2 min walk onto campus, and it’s closer to the shops than mary newman is !
Im sure you’ll be happy in mary newman if you end up there, but radnor would be just as good and a lot cheaper !

Hi!

I went to Radnor Halls for my first year in university and I did enjoy it! There are positives to both Mary Newman and Radnor, and Mary Newman is right on the campus but Radnor is not that far away either and I felt that Radnor is surrounded by more student accommodations as well, such as Gilwell and Pilgrim, so for me it felt that there was definitely a 'student feel' to the area and it helped me settle in a lot more!

The laundry facilities for Radnor are not far at all from the halls, so distance there is not an issue at all! It depends on how you feel about where the accommodation is and your budget as well, but I loved the student friendly feel to Radnor as it was 'off campus' so it did not feel like living on the university itself, and I found it incredibly easy to meet new people as well, which was a major bonus point for me as that was one of my biggest worries about moving away from home!

Hi Alys, thanks for the wonderful explanation, really appreciate it  I have chosen Radnor as my accommodation already, mainly with similar reasoning like yours! And the courtyard is very nice touch to the surrounding area which differentiate it from Mary Newman. So, I am glad people are agreeing with my points!
