Is it possible to be completely unprejudiced?

This came about after a discussion with a customer last night.

He claimed that he thought it was possible to be without prejudice.
I told him it's impossible. We go through experiences, and base our expectations on what we experience.

But then he said wat about if you were devoid of all senses... which brought us onto another argument. Is it possible to live devoid of sense?

What do you think? and reasons?

If you were locked in a room with no other influences for 20yrs and somehow gained the ability to read and write, and somehow weren't irrevocably scarred by the experience you might be unprejudiced for the first 30 minutes or so that you were outside.

We all pre-judge in one way or another. It's part of being human, and it probably used to be extremely important for survival.
I think the closest you can get to being completely objective is to realise how you are subjective and consider your own little prejudicies or bigotries whenever you evaluate someone or something.

you'd be prejudiced against the person that locked you in there, surely ?

The only method we have to interpret the world around us is through previous experience or those related to us by others. The way we understand everything-- human emotion and behavior, our environment etc-- are through things we've already come to understand. If that basis of understanding is flawed then all future interpretation based on that knowledge is flawed. And since human experience and interpretation is not universal there is no way to define what a lack of prejudice would be like. The only time we are not prejudiced would only be the minute we are born. But even then our instincts prejudice us against things such as loud noises, animals etc, things that are subjectively frightening. Even locked in room you'd have experience and it would prejudice you in some form.

I agree with you. It's really interesting for example to be immersed in a totally foreign culture. You have no choice but to become aware of your own biases and subjective view of the world. The only way to be less prejudiced is to be completely aware of the fact that you are and question it's roots.
