PPE/politics and economics personal statement advise

Hi, I have been researching unis and courses and have finally decided that I want to apply to Oxford for PPE and to other unis (e.g. LSE) for politics and economics.

I have heard that LSE can be quite picky and reject people on the basis of their personal statement. So how should I incorporate philosophy into my personal statement without making it irrelevant to LSE (I was thinking about political philosophy but idk)

In short, can I have some advice on how to write a personal statement that is suited for PPE and politics and economics.

Any help will be much appreciated

why don't you want to apply to PPE at other places? LSE do explicitly offer it and might be a bit confused as to why you didn't apply for that course specifically.

Tbh, more important to cater your PS to the other universities since they might not interview, Oxford have the personal statement listed as a 'low priority' piece of evidence. What are your GCSEs like? This, alongside your TSA score will be the only important factors (alongside predictions) to get to interview, at that point the interview is the most important part

hi there!! i was in your position this time last year, as i wanted to apply to oxford for ppe and to lse for politics and economics. i didn’t get an offer from oxford, but that wasn’t because of my personal statement, rather my tsa score was a few marks below the cut-off point (pro-tip: practise LOADS for this test!!!). i do, however, currently hold an offer from warwick for ppe, and an offer from lse for politics and economics! i’d definitely recommend that you read the personal statement of someone who actually got into oxford lol but until then i’m more than happy to pm you mine? that way you could see how i’ve integrated philosophy without taking the main focus away from politics and economics

yeah i really want to emphasise what this person is saying: oxford does not care about your PS as much as other universities do (just make sure you’ve actually read the books you talk about in your PS, otherwise you’ll be caught out at the oxford interview lol) and absolutely absolutely bang out for your tsa cause that is literally what will get you an interview!!!

Yes I know LSE specifically offers it but their PPE course is 4 years long and you have to study all three subjects for the 4 years which isn't very appealing to me, in other unis you can drop 1 of the three subjects at the end of the first year and the course is only 3 years

LSE have a big interest in analytic philosophy in particular, so I'd look into that... I believe Karl Popper was really influential there, so maybe reading some of his work shows you've looked into their philosophy course.

Hi mate,

I'm currently facing the same problem since I would like to apply for PPE at Oxford, UCL, Warwick and KCl but Politics and Economics at LSE. Could you possible send me your personal statement too so that I have an example of how you solved this problem in your ps?
