Should a guy always pay on the first date?

Or should it be split? Opinions?
Split the bill I reckon
Asker should pay- guy or girl.
Unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed before hand.

depends who asked who out
if it was the girl who asked the guy out then she should pay
and if it was the guy then he should
obviously they can split the bill but I think this makes the most sense otherwise

This! Couldn't agree more. If she's blatantly bleeding him dry and ordering expensive cuts of steak and fancy wine, then she'd better be prepared to pay!

Go on a free date and then you can both pay or not pay.

Or on a cheap enough date that it doesn't matter one bit who pays.

What I would say, is that it would be a really stupid move for a man to refuse to go on a date or to get in a bad mood because he was looking at a dating bill of £10 or £20 (depending on what stage of his life he's at).

So, yes, I think that a guy should always pay for the first date because I think that the first date should be free or cheap enough that paying makes no difference to anything in the grand scheme of things.

I like the buying different things during the date option. Splitting the bill is business not romance, only appropriate for internet dates where there is little enthusiasm or enjoyment.

To those who say whoever asks should pay well that's convenient because men typically do the asking, the vast majority of the time
