Trainee Nursing Associate Interview

Hi there,

I have an upcoming interview for a trainee nursing associate. What I would like to know is they type of interview questions they ask. I know I won't get everything you guys say. I have had plenty of NHS interviews but as this is a training program do they ask things like why do you want to be a nursing associate etc?

Thanks in advance

Hey! I’ve recently had mine also. Firstly I applied then I received an email which asked for proof of certificates ,they checked my certificates for example NVQs/GCSE etc then I had another email inviting me to an interview. They then asked questions like 1) why do you want to work for us. 2) what would you do if a patient ever got aggressive 3) To work as an nurse associate what can you bring to the NHS. It wasn’t as scary as I’d thought and it was all based around care & common sense. I’m sure you will be absolutely fine 😊

hi I'm just wondering what questions they asked as i have an interview coming up soon

Okay so they asked me what I think a nurses associate entails, what I would bring to the company as an associate, they also asked me a couple of scenario questions. The best thing to answer is in detail, they told me that they pick people based on a points system and the more you answer the more points you get.
What were the scenario based questions they asked you? Yes I work for the NHS now as a HCA and know they base it on points, how Did your interview and were you successful?

No I wasn’t successful and only by a few points. She did tell me to apply for the next one which will be by the end of the year, and basically told me to elaborate on my answers more. So fingers crossed for next time. I was so disappointed 😔 my scenario was that a patient wanted a cigarette and what would I do and how I would deal with the situation. I cannot remember the other one. X
What questions did they ask about the TNA? sorry for the questions, I’m really bad with interviews and want to be prepared as possible and oh I’m so sorry you didn’t get the job, fingers crossed for next time!! X

Think of the positives now you have experience of the interview and you will definitely have improved next time you do the interview. Good luck!
Got my interview next Monday and I’m a bit anxious about what to expect. It is being held over Microsoft teams call. What sort of scenario questions did they ask and how would you answer? I tend to waffle on rather than get to the point and I just need someone abit more articulate to point me in the right direction?? How could I answer what would you bring as a nurse associate to the team? Thanks so much!
Hi Chloe, I had my interview about a month ago and got asked what behaviour skills and qualities could you bring to the job, for example you need to say you are polite, interested in people, welcoming and positive attitude. Read your trust values and learn the 6 C’s of nursing and bring those into your answers. Make sure to include person centred care, that’s one of the modules you’ll be doing on your course. I had my interview through teams and I wrote down possible questions and answers, if you have any experience in care then include this too! I got asked how I would deal with an aggressive patient so you could say ‘I understand that no two patients are the same regarding treatment and adhering to instruction, I would follow my training and operational procedures at all times. Conduct an initial risk assessment’ you need to learn about the TNA role and what you will be doing, they asked if I could tell them about myself, an idea of good teamwork ect ect! Make sure to elaborate on your answers and make sure they’re detailed. good luck for your interview! Hope this helps ☺️

Hi,

Thanks so much! This really helps! It has given me a bit of insight of what I should look into and remind myself of. I don’t know why I’m so anxious and nervous over this. I’ve been a clinical support worker for the past 4 years on a high acuity ward so I should be able to answer any scenario question confidently as more than likely I will have dealt with it on the ward. I’ve worked myself through Band 1 to Band 3 and now I’m ready for the next step. Thanks again!
