I would strongly recommend you buying the CGP books for the English literature they really help and make the books easier to understand by doing all the analysis for you !

So taking it from the Christmas carol CGP book:
The chapter begins lightheartedly as the omniscient narrator humorously discusses the fact that Jacob Marley is dead.
However, the cheerful beginning is contrasted when Scrooge is introduced making him seem less appealing: he’s mean, greedy and “solitary as an oyster” his “shrivelled” looks and “grating voice” match his horrible personality.

The narrator uses : “once upon a time” to introduce the main story . Dickens uses a fairy tale convention suggesting the story will have a magical element and its likely to have a happy ending.

So this is just an example I suggest by the CGP books
