Can you still get the university experience living at home?

I was thinking to stay at home while at uni, I’m going to wait till results day, but is it harder to make friends when living at home?

I think it really depends on what sort of person you are..personality etc. If you are an outgoing person you'll find it easy to make friends etc but I have a friend who unfortunately is quite a quiet person and she made a few friends but found it hard to make more as many people made friends with their accommodation friends or people through their accommodation flatmates. So I think it really depends. I think as long as you do a lot of socialising through events and various extra-curric it will be absolutely fine!

Hello!

There are pros and cons to living at home whilst at uni.

It certainly would save you a lot of money on accommodation, and perhaps you could spend more time on your studies because you wouldn't be living independently. You also wouldn't have any of the stress of moving out and buying lots of new things to take with you.

However, I think it would also be more difficult to make friends, especially during freshers week when everyone is moving into halls. But its not impossible and as long as you still put yourself out there and go out, I'm sure you would still have the opportunity to make lots of friends! It partly does depend on what kind of person you are. I personally really liked moving out because it forced me to become more independent and go out of my comfort zone.

I hope this helps!

Hi,

It depends how much of the university lifestyle you want to live. I was friends with a few people who lived nearby and commuted in, and we were only in around 10 hours a week. However, if you wanted to nip back to your flat with friends in the day, or be closer to the nightlife etc then you'd be better off living away from home. If however, you'd be happy with seeing people during the day, and you're close enough to travel in to events and evening occasions, then you'd of course save money by living at home.

It all depends on your priorities. It's important to remember your contracts for halls, flats, houses at uni are typically 1-year long. So you can always try it for the first year and then live at home for the second and third if you wish.

Best of luck

It's certainly posssible but i would say make sure to put extra effort in getting involved with societies etc and going out to events with people.
