Nursing at Queens...

Scroll to see replies

Just found out that they got to the interview 20 and some 19. So it looks a bit better for us at 18, but only for feb. But still no guarantes! I've to phone back next week but the woman thinks at this stage single figures will only drop out and that would mean scores of 18 are out the running for the Sept intake!

Guys, I know you wont want to hear this, but... you can use this year to make yourself a more appealing candidate!!
Your interview score is what you need to build for next year! You could consider working in a nursing home? Not only will it give you hands on care experience, and you can hae a little money saved to make your training a ittle more comfortable. Also - a reference from a healthcare provider can help a lot - u don't know who knows who... if that makes sense?

Don't let it get you too down, take a day or two to yourself! Have a duvet day... Forget about housework... Just gather yourself. This year was an incredibly hard intake! And don't forget that... If there are any things you want to resolve go for it, whether that be inprovinng a module grade, or getting more experience!

No matter what 'if it is for you, it will not pass you!'

Good Luck!!

Hi cherrybabes are all the places taken for both intakes, i got a score of 19 and i wasnt called, in gutted i could cry :frown:
hey guys! Im actually gutted for all of you, my friend who was also on reserve for adult called this morning with an interview score of 20. The registry lady told her they are not in a position at present to offer any places to reserves for adult, the intake is full!
She did say however that some people may receive a phonecall up until the 13th sept should someone decide not to take up their place (which does happen guys, so all is not lost!)
Has everyone on here made sure they try to get on reserve for feb intake?
hope everyone gets where they want in the end!

It's not just about getting experience. I'm sure most of you would be excellent nurses already, you just need to learn how to answer scored interview questions (there are books on it and lots of info on the web) to give yourself a better chance next year.

no, but they will be asked in the interview what they have achieved in the past year, or how they have worked towards the interview...

:hugs: to all!!!

so did they give out some places to people from reserve list with a score of 19/20? was that for adult? because i know of at least 2 people who were in my access class who had 20 in their interview and neither received an offer! does that mean they haven't even got through all the people with a score of 19/20?
It really is incredibly difficult this year! good luck cherrybabes...hope u get ur place! xxx

Louise I'm not contradicting you, just saying that interview skills are important and can be learned. After all, you could be the best, most experienced, candidate but if you don't answer the question you can't be scored for it! Anyway, that's all I'm saying on it.

Its very disappointing for everyone who didn't get in, I hope you all get sorted soon.

no i am not saying that you are contradicting me, and yeah interview skills are important. simply making sure everyone knows, that they will ask what they have done in the year.

That is the difficult point about this course - there are soooo many things that have to be together to get you an offer. The only thing is, next year you may be looking at an unconditional offer! :yep:

And I don't know about anyone else, but I found the worst part of the interviews, was not knowing what to expect. I have been drilled with all the things not to do - don't sit down until they ask. if you have to pause take a drink of water. don't say like. say full words. make good eye contact. etc... - that I hadn't actually fully thought through all the questions they could ask. You will all have last years interview to build on.

I don't know what to say to make it better, except... Student Nurses 2011!!:yep:
Well, didn't make it off the reserve list. I'm so disappointed, I have work today, and I really don't want to go in, i'd rather pull the duvet over my head. Guess i'll just have to work towards it all again for next year. Congrats again to all those who got places, and to all those who didnt, I know how you feel!
I know a lot of you are very disappointed not to get an offer, but don't forget this year was a very tough year with record applicants, try not to be to hard on yourselves, if your determined and really want it you will get there :knuddel:
Hi Daisy Boo All the places have been taken for all branches. Fingers crossed for feb, if not I'll have to improve my interview technique. Hope you get your place, whenever!!
Must agree that the interview score is important. I do interviews for my work and it is surprising the number of people who just dont talk enough in an interview (i know its down to nevres) But if people dont talk they cant be scored, talking plenty (which i do when Im nervous) not only shows that you know the subject matter but also shows that you are a confident person. when i was waiting for my interveiw i was surprised at the number of people who where in and out in about 5 mins (my interview took 25). interview technic is a skill but it can be practiced and learned.

lol! I was exactly the same my interview lasted about 25mins too and as i walked out i started to panic thinking i had maybe rambled on way too much! I still believe I owe my place at queens to the fact i had the nicest possible ladies interviewing me...put me totally at ease! and to be fair my questions were pretty reasonable in comparison to what some others got asked! xxxxxx

Lol it was exactly the same for me too...I went in at 3.15 and came out 3.45.....the two ladies who interviewed me totally put me at ease and even got up to help me when I stupidly dropped the folder holding all my exam certs and they fell all over the floor....i was so embarrassed and that was before I answered a question.!!! I def owe my place this year to those ladies completely putting me at ease so I was able to do what im best at (talking) apparently!!!....lol
