You send of the form then they may ask to meet some people, they ask some questions then give you a routine check up, I had problems with Blood Pressure so they asked me to go to my GP to go on medication (though I think it was just the stress)

Yeah, most people have no problems, I think they only ask to meet people who may have highlighted something, (but never hide anything, big trouble if they found out) most of the time its ok, they just need to make sure people are 'fit to practice' its one of the NMC (2008) guidelines for registering nurses, no point in Queens putting people through the course for the NMC not to allow them on the register.

'fit to practice' is nothing to do with how fit or active you are its more to do with your character, or if you have a medical contition that could place patients at risk.

Hi,

I have just been through the process and i'm starting adult nursing at queens in Feb 2012. You can check entry requirements online or if you are concerned called the nursing registry at Queens and they will give you advice on what you need. The applications are normally available in Nov and you have to contact Queens directly for you form, you can download it online via the website. the deadline for your application is normally the start of Jan. Good Luck

Hey
When I applied two years ago it was definitely a C in maths. There is a fair bit of numeracy involved, but it's all adding, subtracting, multiplying and division (long!!), as well as fractions and percentages. It's nothing too complex.
I'm second year children's branch now, so any questions, ask away x

Awww thank you for your help! It says though if there is too many to be shortlisted then they are going to take the applicants with grade B's first?
Do you enjoy it?

That's changed since I applied, seems harsh, basing it on a maths grade, but i suppose they have to shortlist some way - so many apply!!
Yeah, I enjoy it soooo much, it's fantastic. Have you applied yet?
No I haven't yet, the application forms don't come out until the 8th of Nov.. getting really excited now! can I ask what the health check is like and do you have to pass it to be placed on the course? Thank you for all your help

The health check initially consists of a screening form asking you basic questions about your health. If there is nothing of concern in that, then you probably won't even be called for the occupational health appointment. If there is anything of concern, you just go in to occupational health to discuss it with the nurse. It's really to see if you would need additional support for the course etc. For example, if you indicated you had dsylexia, then you would be offered maybe a note taker in class and extra time for exams etc.
