I got an offer and I'm 39, so not sure about the majority being school leavers. I am shocked though, cos I dont think i would have scored 45+ in the interview. My other half (a nurse) said i had a better chance because i'm male and slightly older!

yes my point is that there seems to be mature students over the age of 30 and others are under 20 ... i havent yet spoke to any inbetween!! they have to except mature students for equality ect.

most people with offers are 18 and on here the mature students all seem to be 30+ and the brink of people i spoke to that are on the reserve list are in their twenties!!!! ...alot with very high scores my point is that not all of the school applicants cud not hav possibly got and very high score but they all seem to have offers.. this is just my personal experience though. if some on the reserve list do have the same score and meet criteria the system is very unfair xx

I am 32 and I am a mature student I got an offer to study Adult Nursing. I got a conditional reserve offer for Midwifery and I am absolutely gutted I got 44 out of 50 I spoke to a few on reserve and most of the midwifery reserve one girl that I know off got the same score as me and other girls I have spoke to hav scored under the 44. Soo I live in hope if I dont get into Midwifery this year I will apply in November time x

I'm 32 and have a conditional offer and I know of other mature students with conditional offers so its def not all school leavers, I also know a lot of school leavers who didn't even make the reserve list

again over 30 though... i just saying that there is bound to be some in the middle of 18 - 30+ category that has got an offer. i to kno alot that got rejected. they are required to take in a number of access students and older mature students the very fact that they will not give out the scores of those with offers does raise a few questions in my mind ... well done on getting an offer btw  x

Ohh I need it lol... chin up you have a better chance than me of getting a place of the reserve list....

Yes i'm a student nurse at the moment, the reason the people on the reserve list for midwifery have higher scores than for nursing is because there is only 30 places for midwifery and its more competitive (therefore you need a higher score to get in) and 100's of places for adult nursing across sept and feb!

If you are on the reserve for nursing therefore you have a good chance of getting in because there are more places on offer. For midwifery its usually only between 0-3 places that are offered to reserve and some only a week before you start and is usually due to family circumstances (ie pregnancy) and not meeting grades required.

NurseWannabe there were 36 offered Conditonal Offers to study Midwifery last year. The number of conditional offers this year were reduced to 30. I was really happy with my interview and came out feeling confident. I know Queens used short listing criteria soo whoever has been offered a place need to have a B in Maths. Maths is a tough subject x
Good Luck those on reserve!! the reason you may feel there is a larger than average amount of younger people with offers is because younger people are in the majority on these types of websites.

I'm on this site and another and know a few people who have been successful, reserve and those that haven't, of all ages (18-50), I feel this year has been equal in regards to the ages of those with offers, whereas in the past it has been a majority of mature students for midwifery and childrens nursing in particular.

The truth is nursing and midwifery in northern ireland in particular is highly competitive, with thousands of applicants applying for limited places that are being cut each year because there isn't any jobs for those qualified in northern ireland, shortlisting and interviewing is used to reduce the numbers but there is still too many that perform very well at interview with basically full marks, gaining a place.

Good Luck, you can hear from queens anytime after the closing date for the email back to queens to accept the offer to the day before they start in sept!!

Fingers crossed for you all

Yes :frown: What about you? I have been reading over the post from the last few yrs and scores of 19/ 20 were given offers from reserve! I got 40 in my interview so maybe in with a chance this yr! fingers crossed x
Me too, that will help you alot in first year in particular!! Although they are changing the structure of the nursing course alot so won't be the same as our first year but a strength in those subjects particularly biology will benefit you throughout the three years!

Thanks glad I was lucky enough to get an offer, I do know 3 girls in their twenties who got offer, they just don't post on here, i think it was just very hard this year, would be good if they did give scores out to everyone when they send letters out, would certainly cut down on their workload with everyone phoning in for their scores xx

Thats a high score you will more than likely get a place in one of the branches it may not be Childrens... What was your 2nd choice?

I got 44 out of 50 for Midwifery and there are 40 of us on reserve. The wait is awful x

I got my email asking me to fill it out online on the 1st of June gives a link, says we have received confirmation from your university that u may be eligible for an NHS student bursary for the academic year 2012/13.
You should complete an online application via our website...
It then says: Please ensure you complete your application and post all relevant documentation to us by 15 June 2012. If you cannot do this, it should be submitted as soon as possible after this date and in all cases, no later than six months from the first day of the academic year for which you are applying.
