hey hannah finally nice to meet someone for mental health as well, ive put down about my depression to i dont think we should be to worried to be honest as you can say that at least you have a bit of empathy towards what others have been through and also use your past experiences to help others. have you a date set for your medical? i havent got one yet hope it will come soon as i am trying to work as much as i can up until uni for the money.

will you be living in halls or are you from belfast? im from banbridge so think i will still in halls and am learning to drive anyway hopefully get me test soon

Hey sorry im only getting back now! I had my medical and passed so didnt have to worry about! At the minute i'm travelling but i would love to be living in up but i bet its too late to sort anything now! I'm from Tyrone so it will be a good spin up every morning! Have you recieved your time table or anything?

Hey i emailed the office to ask them bout the uniform and books.

I have been hearing that we not longer get any money we spend on them refunded!! :frown:
Although some people are saying that its not true, and we will be repaid for them in our first bursary payment.

Has anybody heard any information on this as the office hasnt replied to me yet.

There was a consultation paper that went out asking for views on whether the money for these should be refunded. Recommendation was to drop this payment, so I guess that's what will happen as they have dropped the bursary.

Thats so unfair, money is tight enough for students.

Hi everyone,

I know this is very off topic, but wasn't sure where to post it, so sorry in advance!

I am hoping to apply for 2013 entry to Queen's Uni and initially wanted to do Midwifery. I recently found out that there are only something like 35 places for midwifery every year and about 3500 applicants. I had started looking at the other nursing courses and am particularly interested in Mental Health nursing; I have just returned from doing 2 years at Kingston Uni, London studying Psychology but due to personal and financial reasons decided to leave after completing my second year. I definitely want a degree though, hence why I am re-applying to Queen's.

What I wanted to know was, if I put Metal health nursing as my 'first choice' (I know it doesnt work the same as UCAS but bear with) and then picked midwifery as a second choice, would that make it look like i wasnt THAT interested in mental health nursing because i had put another option down. Or would they look at it as being wise and putting down more than one option because nursing is so competitive to get in to?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Tubie,
hope you are well! I am starting adult nursing in Feb 2013 and when I applied I put down my order of preference for all 4 intakes!

I'm not sure about mid-wifery as I did not apply for that ,some other of the gang on here might be able to help you with that, i think its a seperate application or just a seperate interview ,am not sure.
I chose adult mainly because it is considered the more general of the lot and if I decide I prefer another aspect better ,I can always specialise down the line.
I think that is the great thing about nursing, it opens up so many avenues you may not even consider starting out.
Hope this helps and best of luck! :-)

Thanks CatsMc!

I have been really looking into Mental Health nursing and it seems like the right thing for me to apply for, but I think it would be a smart move to apply for other options in nursing too. Not put all my eggs in one basket.

I'm excited! cant wait to get my application started, finished, handed in! As far as I know, applications open in September so I'll be straight on it once they open.

Thanks!

I cant do the online enrolement as system down hope they get it up and running soon.

Rang bursary office and they said reduction in amount of money is still not confirmed. They will know next week and if it is reduced don't get money for uniform.

The nursing office at queens emailed me back!!

They said we are expected to pay for our own uniforms this year.

this online registration thing is confusing me...
on the letter it says online registration is available from 12.00pm today. But on the leaflet and online it says 9.00am on 12th sept!!!

Hi Ceeves86

I am so excited about starting nursing but just to let you know about the registration. On the Registration Leaflet it says the wizard is on from 9.00 am 12 September but that is for all other QUB students. Nursing and midwifery is different and they do register their new students much earlier. In your pack you got a coloured flyer it tells us that our online registration is opened from today and it is as i have mine all done .

I know its a pity about the uniform but after all i guess we are so lucky to be getting our fees paid and receive a bursary - i am just so grateful to get started on my course to fulfil my dream of being a nurse

see everyone soon

I haven't been successful in the September 2012 intake and have remained on reserve list for the February intake.
I was just wondering does anyone know the start date for February and what is the likely hood of securing a place?
Many thanks
