Hi hipbones,

Could you give any advice on possible interview questions?
Insight into the course.

Thanks.
I was asked why I wanted to be a nurse and why maths and english was important. The key element is to show your personality and make sure they like u. Ask before you sit down, give eye contact
Right at end of mine I told them I felt I was born to be a nurse. I cant quite remember any other questions they asked as im in feb 14 intake now. But if u have any other questions let me know  xx

Can you imagine having to interview that many people!! If they interview nearly 1000 people, how many places are there?

There are 406 places. There are 81 in my year (February 2014) and rest are in september 2013

I think theres about 35 midwifery places, and if theres 30/35 LD places the bulk must go to Adult, Childrens and MH? With this years intake being 406 that leaves alot for the other branches.

Hey nursing people got my interview date pure relief nervous but excited...has anyone any tips they cou throw out there ta help me on my way ?

A little insight for you all. There are 3 placements each year. You spend uni in six week slots which are called phases. So six weeks in uni, six out. Im in phase 1 as ive only started. Queens only go by belfast, southeastern and southern health and social care trusts so be prepared to travel. Im not wanting to put any of u off but this is what I wondered before I started  im proud to be a nursing student. Hope to see some of you next year!

No 406 is just for adult
There's no way there's 406 adult nurses alone. The lecture theatre we use just about holds my cohort and there's around 320 of us in total, all branches included. They've upped spaces this year but not that much.

Adult branch use the Belfast and Southern trusts, and because there's less of the other branches they can be spread throughout all the trusts as we've less placements available. I'm currently in the Western Trust as a children's nurse.

There's around 55 children's nurses, the same for MH and then 35 or so LD nurses, the rest are adult.

I hope this helps.

I think some one has ran off with my 406 figure and got confused.

It was just under 400 last year and 406 places are available for all nursing sept and feb this coming intake.

35 are available for Midwifery.

I believe, within the 406 is included the 35 midwives too. Leaving approx 246 Adult over both intakes. That sounds more like it. Would you agree?
Emma thank you! Queens have done a great job interactively this year compared to last year! It's great to know exactly what's what this year rather than us all going by rumours!
I'm still waiting to hear back regarding interview but taking no news as good news as my ucas hasn't changed and I was one of the last to be interviewed last year! :-)

No problem! I'm a Queen's student doing a very different subject from Nursing but I'm looking into making things clearer for you guys!

It's such a massive school and they are so over subscribed with brilliant people, it's never a comment on you if you don't hear till later! Interview dates are still being processed and will be for a good time yet.

Again if you have any questions just let me know and I'll pass them on to the school. They are keen to get you looking at their FB page "QUB School of Nursing and Midwifery" more so keep checking that for any updates. They put another one up about interview tips.

Use the fact you applied last year to your advantage! They need people who are dedicated to nursing and capable of handling the stresses. A set back like that could have put others of but you were dedicated and applied again! Tell them what you did with your year and show how you've improved over the year.

I wish you all the luck in the world!
Thanks Emma! I am actually on that FB page already. Trying to leave no stone unturned this year :-) I feel a lot calmer about the process and I think that alone will help me as I was so nervous and stressed last year! Hoping that this is my year ☺️ Just wish the postman would bring me a letter with an interview date soon though! And my year has definitely been very different. My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and I cared for him until he passed (while still managing to process my ucas application). So I hope I can get across how much I want it this year if I get an interview through!!
I hope your course is going well for you. 😀

The 406 is split between the September and February intake
