Thank you. Three years ago, before coming back to NI, I looked into medicine. Although, at 34 to start doing A Levels, followed by a further 10 years of Uni, I had a re think. I also have a hubby and two young kids and accepted I would've been asking too much of them.

Around this time, I am ashamed to say, I was one of those people that thought that a nurse was basically a doctors assistant and wasn't given any clinical responsibility. How wrong was I? After weighing up the two professions I have become surprised and pleased with where nursing is now. I still feel that there is a lot of misconceptions about nursing but hope that the idea of increasing the academic requirement might lift the lid on the profession.

Thank you for all your help, so far. I hope you stay on this forum to hold my hand through application and interviews later this year and into next. So far I'm hoping to apply to Queen's, Chester, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton and Liverpool John Moore's, although that can change in 6 months.

the fact that there is 20 drop outs this year frustrates me as I was on reserve list last year and I would have done anything to have had one of them places!

Although Emma said "The current graduating year has 20 dropouts. That's 20 places that someone else could have filled" I wonder does she mean, 20 of those that where supposed to be graduating this year have dropped out over the 3 year programme or does she mean of those that have just started this September/Feb intake 20 of those have dropped out?

If its the former, I think to only loose 20 out of 406 approx over a 3 year period is pretty good, but not so good for those missing out. Although if she saying the latter, I agree its a disgrace and would drive me crackers.

I know that there's already been a few drops outs from the Sept 13 cohort!
Who did you get for your interview panel deviant? I'm sure your glad it's over now!! Did you drive to it? If so where did you park?

Yikes £120 k. That's a lot. So that's 15 between year 2 and year 3. Why would you drop out if your over half way through.

I couldnt tell you..cannot remember their names!
There was 6 panels.. a to f and each of 2 people.
The panels then ask questions and write down your answers and then go from there. Was a little annoyed though as the people interviewing me hadnt even read my personal statement so I had to tell them my background information and what id wrote as well as answering the questions.
And I parked behind the university in the side streets then just walked across to the building. Which by the way, is right next to the students union.
So im hoping I have done well but they didnt give much away. Lovely people though

How did you manage to bring up your personal statement ? Did you just refer to it?
Glad it went well for you :-)

Sounds like you did an amazing job well done. When I was at the presentation given by queens to the Belfast met early November they told us they don't read the PS. There marked externally.

Interviews are held in building right beside the Student Union so if you are looking straight at the student union it'll be on your right I think its the second buliding ..its marked anyway. Questions for Nursing are very straight forward and basic so really its how you answer them... good luck everyone Can anyone tell me if the questions for Midwifery are the same as the Nursing Questions as I now have an interview for Midwifery too .
Any mature students applying for the Feb intake of adult nursing? Good luck to everybody with interviews coming up - I am still sick with nerves any time I think about it I am just terrible with interviews wish it was a presentation that would be easier lol

Yes I applied for it too .you will be asked your order of preference when u get there. Dont worry the questions are very straight forward and only you can answer them for the way you feel about It .you basicaly have to sell yourself to why u want to become a nurse ..just sit up and picture your interviewers as of you were teaching them Good luck you will be fine x

I have only applied for Feb intake so I know my chances are slim! I withdrew applying for Sept as I finish my current degree in June and wanted a bit of a break lol. Sure there is always next year if I don't make it this year - thank you for the advice  I just get so flappy at interviews and ramble on

You will be grand ..im usually the same with interviews but found I was relatively calm. They are lovely and they understand yout nervous. You may feel uptight for a little then u will flow... remeber keywords. And you will be grand. When is your interview?

Ramble away studycrazy they want to hear about you. If you are studying a d only want the feb intake ...tell them that you are committed to your other studies should be good qualities to include about yourself and that you habe a good study back ground .

Oh right... i googled the address on maps but it showed me the macmillan centre. The SU is on University Road but my letter says to go to 73 Lisburn Road :/ ?
Thank you babycakes I hope I will calm after a while as I don't want to mess it up with nerves! I'm trying to practice my answers to some questions but I think it is always difficult as you just don't know what will be asked and if you will think of an answer quickly or not. I'm worried they may ask why I am finishing my current degree when I want to do nursing as it isn't very relevant I only decided on nursing half way through my degree and didn't want to chuck away 18 months of work - I was able to chose some third year modules in health and social care policy so hopefully I can mention that in a positive way! Thank you for all the advice ) Mine is on 11th March
