Does anyone know when we get offers for accommodation? I've applied for Elms Village as first preference. I was just wondering when do we hear back about room offers? Thanks ☺️

People this year were still getting offers right up after beginning their course. So don't hold your breath!

Oh so very true! Or walk out in the middle of lectures, or go for a fag break, or just don't turn up and have other people sign them in, or turn up half an hour late....
It goes on.

Are the lectures that bad? lol I read on one of the facebook groups that people couldn't hear properly because of people talking so much. I thought queens would be really strict about this and about people not turning up? With my first degree I was pulled about it straight away if I missed any sign in lectures or tutorials

There has been meetings about this. People were emailed and called in to see staff about absences etc and if there is anyone who hasn't completed so many hours etc they cannot do placement. They are strict about it. That's down to nmc regulations.
As for people talking that's up to others to tell them to shut up. You're adults not children and there's only so many times a lecturer will say something. They're getting paid to be there. You are choosing to be there. If you are not adult enough to sit down shut up and listen then that's your priority.
(Obviously not you per se but u get what I'm getting at!)

I would be flipping my lid lol I am one of these ones that doesn't take things in easily I need to be in quietness during lectures or I don't take info in and I will certainly not be afraid to tell people to hush up lol. I'm hoping as feb intake is smaller it won't be as crowded and rowdy in lectures

Yeah it will be. The Feb intake is much smaller. In Sept there's 350 of us plus midwives so you can expect it will be a bit excitable at times. Overall the lectures are good and it's going so quick!

It goes so quickly. And everywhere you have placements are so used to students etc that they are so helpful and understand exactly how you will be feeling. I have 5 more weeks and it's flying in. It's so shocking how quick it is going. So make sure you start reading up on stuff now and be organised!

Aww fab you must be really enjoying it! Any recommended reading? I got an anatomy and physiology book to refresh my memory and have been getting nursing times magazines. I wish they would hurry and release febs calendar for the 3 years I know the holidays aren't great and are few but I have one booked so I want to try and change it but can't until I get the calendar. Have you guys had exams already?

Yeh we have had an exam and a presentation already! And then an essay due in when we are back plus our portfolios. So yes its going quick!
And the royal Marsden and a good anatomy and physiology book are always worth reading up on.
It goes so quick you don't realise. Best tip is to stay organised and on top of things as you're learning so much so quick. And make sure you do your own reading each week too. We've had a few people coming out with "but we haven't been taught that..." which of course you won't be as it's university not school! So if anything, self discipline!

Wow it must go so quickly I'll have to be super organised with two kiddies to run around after as well lol I'm looking forward to studying again though my brain needs some new info! Luckily they've informed me my caution won't stop me getting my place yay :-)
This thread has gone awfully quiet.....

It has been everybody is probably busy studying  or preparing to start - I can't wait to start now fed up waiting lol How are you getting on deviant?
Getting on great. Can't believe I'm nearly half way through second semester already. Few more weeks and I'm out on my next placement. Then after that I'm back for exams!
It's going crazy quick and we have learnt so much already it's weird to think where we all were this time last year. Everyone is enjoying it and it is a lot of hard work but when you enjoy it it doesn't seem so much like work.
I do recommend you practice and practice your maths though! 100% pass mark is needed each year (they've just changed it!)

Oh my goodness is it really? I thought it was 80% first year :frown: Understandable though! I've been using the QUB practice page for maths and have the nursing calculations book and have been working through it as it is my weakest subject. How did placement go? Were you lucky in getting placement nearby or did you have to travel a fair bit? I know you get placement details early but when do they give you the shifts is it week before placement? I can't wait for assignments again - strange!
