Hi see with regards to the reserve list what all do they take into account for example do they consider it on the course your doing?

Well from what I can gather it is based on ur score at interview. They don't seem to look at grades or anything like that!!

They would have taken that into consideration before you got an interview

UU just seemed so unorganized. I was bounced between people and never got an answer. I suppose I was just one of the unlucky ones.

In the end, it works out that UU doesn't offer exactly what I needed to transfer back to the US if I wanted anyway \

I am sure the anticipation to hear back from Queen's is killer for everyone. It's hard to be left in limbo wondering that long!

Queens and UU both offer same qualification surely. B Sc Hons? What do you need for US?

no its not true, Im 24 and the course was completely free, the course I did at bmc was only for students aged 21 and over, I promise with BMC there are no fees whatsoever unless you do part-time course xx

A lot of people have said that the access course is probably one of the best avenues to go down. Can you tell me about one of your best experiences in the course (not like making freinds etc) but what you did and how this helped you for uni life/ nursing?

Hi I thought the access course was great the tutor r very helpful n r pretty flexible especially when u have kids (they understand), but it's tough 1 year is taken up by assignments n exams but well worth it. In dyslexic n got 74% never dreamt of doing that well but the tutor r fab n give u confidience that u can do it. I was 25 when I done the access course so it was 9 yrs since I left school n forgotten everything but they went straight back to the basics n worked their way up. I would recommend it to anybody. Hope this has helped

you got a fantastic mark! I'm sure you're so proud! I'm waiting for my results and its killing me...still have a while to go won't know til 25th june. I would be ecstatic if I managed to get anywhere near that grade, I'll settle for 60% because thats all I need and don't think i'll get anything close to what you did xx

The access course is definitely hard work but so totally worth it, I also have children and the tutors were so lovely and took that into consideration. I think its a great way of preparing yourself for uni because the one year course is quite intense with lots of coursework and all the deadlines were pretty close together, it teaches you to juggle home/family/working/student life so it def helps with time management, if its nursing you hope to go on to do then you can either do a science based access course (thats the one i did and involved chemistry biology and statistics) in which case you need a 60% pass mark overall to gain uni entrance. If you chose to do a non-science based course (english, psychology etc) then uni asks for a 65% average you should go for it, but if your interested look into it now as i know places on these courses fill up quickly xxx

I dont know about the 22 year old thing, but I had to pay my fees. It was 199 pounds per year plus an extra 50 pounds per year payable to the UU. I know some people in my class got help with the cost, they got half of it paid. I did not do my course at belfast though, i did it at the NRC, so not sure if this makes a difference.

I feel that the access course was very good at building my acedemic confidence and skills. It really helped to be able to do the report like assignments that will be required at university. The feed back was great and it was good to be able to see my own work really progress throughout the two years.

I also feel it was a good experience as it really helps you to understand the actual level of work and hours that is required to get good grades, (if thats what you want, some people dont) It helps you to prioritise what things are important to you.
sorry about so many posts, but someone was asking before about what the access % ment compared to A levels, and at long last i found the book that had that info, which i had lost for a while. It is a UU booklet and here is the info it gives:

UCAS Tariff BTEC ACCESS
360 (AAA) DDD 76%
340 (AAB) DDD 74-75%
320 (ABB) DDM 72-73%
300 (BBB) DDM 70-71%
280 (BBC) DMM 65-69%
260 (BCC) DMM 60-64%
240(CCC) MMM 55-59%
220 (CCD) MMM 52-54%
200 (CCD) MMP 50-51%
180 (CC) MMP 48-49%
160 (DDD) MMP 48-49%

So if the University is requiring 60% at access that is BCC at A level, and 65% at access is BBC at Alevel.

Hope this helps everybody, know we all know what 'A Levels' we have.
I have 2 A's n a B go me lol

Entry into queens/access courses.

Referring to the Nursing entry requirements for queens here with regards to getting in with the access course. They also ask for an additional 3 GCSE's...... the purpose of the access course is to give those without a formal education a second chance, but I think the thought of doing 3 GCSE's along with the course is gonna be a bit of a pain, any views or experiences with regards to this?
Hi apiedi, as regards to the access course u dont need to do 3 gcse's along with the course as the access course is equvilent to 5 gcse's and 3 a levels!! The course is very intense but it really does prepare u for university!
