Access course

What grades where all you guys getting in your exams and coursework to come out at the end with the likes of 85% and 77% etc.............

I got 84% overall. In my first year i got 90% in my maths 82% in english and 83% in sociology (Ithink these are right but really cant remember) and I averaged 85% in my first year.

In second year I got 80% in sociology 82% in developmental psycology, 84% in social psycology and 86% in human biology. the secong year i averaged 83%.

I know these marks are good, but i really did work hard for them. I know some in my class who didnt get the grades for nursing and they are very disappointed, dont think because so many here have got good marks that it is easy, it isnt easy for everyone, but I still admire the girls who finished even if they didnt get what they needed, so many didnt finish. One girl in our class quit 3 WEEKS before the end!! can you believe that, two years wasted, because she didnt sit her last exams, all because she didnt get iinto social work. At least if she had finished the access she could apply again next year, now she says she is going to do the two years again even though she was averaging aroung 79%. madness.

It really depends one subject can pull u up as u could be stronger at that subject. Biology n chemistry is easier to reach 80% to 90% sociology n English lit is hard to get past 75% but it can be done, as u really need to know what ur taking about. Science based access course u prob need to score 70% - 90ties to get 85%. all u marks r added up n divided between 3 I think. Eg I got average of 65% in sociology 73% in English lit n 85% in biology n I got 74% overall

I went to src Banbridge and did the 2 year part time non science based. By the looks of things i should have been at your college all those gtades are excellent. I thought our tutors were very tough at marking. I only got in the 50s in sociology and same in my psychology and English Literature and i poured my heart and soul into them, also thought i did really well in the exams and was disappointed in my mark. Aw well time to stop moanin still got just enough to get in.

No need to feel disappointed, especially if you got enough to get in. Im sure your class was like mine and alot of people dropped out but you stuck it out even through your disappointments and that is also an acievment in itself, Hold your head up, be proud and give yourself a big pat on the back!

I've got my conditional offer for adult in sept, get my access results on friday so the wait is nearly over, don't think I'll do anywhere near as well as what everyone on here has done, but as long as I make the 60% I need then I'm happy enough! I'm sure you so relieved you can enjoy your summer now and come sept you are officially a student nurse! xx

did anybody else hear that this academic year of 2010/11 is the last year of the bursaries??
Reply 1526
I've heard from a student nurse up in UU that this is the last year that students wouldn't have to pay any fee's for nursing.......whether or not its true I don't know but I'd hate to think so?

apparently this is true, my best friend is going into her third year of adult nursing and she said its going about uni that only those starting in sept 2010/feb2011 are entitled to the bursary, the good thing is it means we are still entitled to the payments for the full 3 yrs, wonder why they are putting a stop to it? Maybe best not believing anything until we hear it for ourselves though xx

Yeah I have heard this also, the reason behind it is because we are in a reccession and the government cut the bursarys so they can use the money elsewere. Aparantly they did this before, though dont know if this is true.

It would be a real pain if they did cut the bursary, but on the other hand it may lower the amount of people applying for nursing giving people like myself a better chance when it comes round to applying next year :-).....sorry to be the odd one out but just a thought lol

I think it would be a real shame if they cancelled bursaries, as a married woman with a mortgage, I would find it so hard to have to work to pay the bills as well as doing placement at the same time, would not be able to focus on the nursing as much and would be major stressed!

I'm the same I've 2 little boys and bills to pay, but hopefully I should be starting in sept (if i get the results! lol), when are you hoping to start the course? if its either sept or next feb you will be fine and you'll get the bursary for the duration of the course, apparently its not available to new students starting from sept 2011 xx
