Nursing at Queens...

Personally I think midwifery n nursing are completly different, basically u don't have doctors lead unless there r complications, in my interview for midwifery for example they asked what is the difference between a midwife n a nurse? yes u provide the same care n stuff but so do alot of professions. I can understand ur point lousie but apiedi doesn't have 5 As at alevel or great gcse's N doing the access course doesn't get her into med so really the only way to do it is gettin a degree in nursing or human bio n then goin on, it's like a second chance so gd luck with wot ever happens

nursing in general is different from midwifery... but i think until you go onto a ward and see what role each professional plays you can't say that it is the universal experience. There is a reason most other countries require nurses to experience training in paediatrics, obstetrics, surgical, psych and general med... because they all offer a different aspect of care. in face UU take that approach in their first year placement schedule.

if someone is going to use nursing to go into medicine thats their perogative... but there is a reason academics are important, because that is what you need. His time may be better spent going back and retaking them exams, as opposed to getting a degree... because it is within the same university you are applying, and they will ask why you did nursing first, and question if it was a route.

but hey, good luck, if it is meant for you it won't pass you... but personally I hope you don't get a place
That's a really terrible thing to say hope u don't get a place.....
maybe... but if its not what (s)he wants to do, and i know (s)he says (s)he does 'more than anything' but (s)he is making plans including it, but not involving nursing... and that is not what the NHS needs...
there is a responsibility that comes with nursing, and believe me iit will be rammed home enough times in lectures... you are being paid for by tax payers to not only learn, but support yourself while learning, hoping you will contribute to the NHS,,, because Nursing/ Midwifery is a career in demand.

And, all I can say is, it annoys me when people drop out, or when they don't go to class, when they treat placement as a joke. I worked hard to get my place. I work hard on placement, and fill in my portfolio with pride, checking of skills learrnt... I think it is such an honor, and for anyone coming in under false pretences, it annoys me to be truthful.

With places in high demand in the north, and the available spaces already being cut...

As I said, personal opinion.
I totally understand n get were ur coming from but that's a terrible thing to say to any1 even ur worst enemy

Normally I would take offense to such a thing BUT I think everything that Louise is saying is helpful for anyone going into nursing by describing the a few details about the course.......I will say however I think your getting confusd between someone hoping to get into medicine through the nursing route and someone treating the nursing course like a joke I quote...... "And, all I can say is, it annoys me when people drop out, or when they don't go to class, when they treat placement as a joke".......Last but not least I enjoy hearing peoples views and opinions about all sorts of matters including my own ambitions but I'm not hear to argue or defend my reasons for wanting to get into medicine....if you have a problem with what I've got planned please tell me at the end of the day its all a learning process but just take it back a notch in your case
Totally agree u will get what u want if u want it that badly at the end of the day u will be contributing to the nhs by being a doctor.

Apiedi it may be helpful for you to have a look into the role of a nurse and all the career options there are with it, there are so many! I say this because the role of nursing is changing and they are taking on more role and responsibility that was previously undertaken by doctors and they even work independently of doctors in many areas i.e specialist nursing, nurse prescribers etc. There are also nurse led clinics & community nursing who have their own patients and make decisions etc without doctors.

You may find that nursing will be ideal for you!
Hiya.
