I am strongly considering a career in research, so an MRes seems like a logical step after my pharmacology BSc. I'm a high 2:1/1st student, but have no experience other than lab modules in my course. Never bothered applying for summer internships due to the pandemic and seeing everyone else's get cancelled (the pandemic is now clearing up so that was clearly a mistake). I'm going into third year September and I know many places do not even consider final year students for summer internships.

Would a strong 2:1/1st degree be enough to secure an MRes, or is experience necessary?

I am now atm studying biochem in my final year, and from what I have seen around me, MRes courses are not that competitive. Of course, that will depend on where specifically you want to do it. If you can demonstrate your strong research interest and can talk about it, with a high 2.1/1st, it is a pretty easy gig. Don't worry too much about not having industry experience as MRes courses are there to gain that research experience in the first place. Best of luck.
