Have you sketched the problem?
a) was essentially a circle (intersecting a line at two points)

I was struggling to sketch b as didn’t know where to put the q+2

I realize, if you can't sketch the problem when you come up against something a bit unusual, you don't know what to do.
b) obviously involves trig / triangles. Pls have a go at sketching a and b and upload what you think.

Brilliant! And now can you draw a triangle? You know the angle between that and i, so can you mark in that angle and the lengths in terms of q? Hint: remember that AC would be the hypotenuse of a triangle with sides parallel to i and j
