starting university kind of scares me
what if I end up not liking the course?
what if I don't end up in a good career and then regret my degree?
what if I would've had a better life if I didn't go to uni?
what if I just end up simply not liking uni

I dont know what to do I was so confident that I wanted to the course I applied for and I got offers from really good unis but now im having second thoughts and I dont know if I should go to uni

but then if I dont go to uni what else am I meant to do as I dont know what career I want to go into yet. I do like the subject I applied for but what if its just useless and ive wasted my time. but then theres no other subject I would want to do.

I feel like I have no choice but to go but then what if I regret it in the future and am miserable

What course did you apply for?

And don’t worry everyone has these exact same worries before moving uni but as soon as you move it’ll only be there for a minute then you’ll be too busy having fun at uni!

Trust me, everyone worries about this kind of thing before starting, myself included.

If we all spent life dwelling on the what ifs and holding ourselves back because of them, no one would ever get anywhere.

Try and focus on something else and just enjoy your time for now.

To start off, don't go to university if you not sure you like the subject, almost everyone who does this ends up not doing good, regrets their expensive choice, or ends up living a life where they hate every day of it...... so yeah don't do that

Stop getting sucked up by the perception that you must go to university when you are 18.... that is ******** and the system of being forced to choose a specialism at 18 is absurd... just read this quote from one of my favourite cartoon characters Daria:

Size: 111.9 KB
"My goal is to not wake up at 40 with the bitter realisation that I've wasted my life in a job I hate because I was forced to decide on a career in my teens"

Were suppose to privileged to be in an age where there are over 50,000 Uk undergraduate courses but in reality that's too much choice and has just caused a great deal of confusion. Don't be under the impression that you need to go to university next year. Take a gap year. Figure yourself out. And work out what you like and dislike.

If you choose to ignore my advice, then go to university and do that course you hate, but don't come running back on this site with a post titled 'I ****ed up'

Hi there!

Its completely understandable and normal to be feeling the way you are! Before I started university the same thoughts ran through my head all day long. It's hard to just push these thoughts out your head, and its difficult! I would suggest speaking to friends and family have you tried speaking to any of these or even people who've been to university? University isn't for everyone and it's ok if you don't decide to go, however you'll never know what university is like, unless you try it.

If you really don't to go then I would suggest not going, however if you're not wanting to go because of your worries then I'd maybe suggest having a further think about your decision! I hope this helps

Hi there,

I hope you are well - I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling quite puzzled!

I think my advice to you would be not to fall into the 'what if' rabbit hole. Often, our minds have a habit of imagining things that never have / will happen - it's just an opportunity for our brain to grasp some sort of security (so I have found from experience!). Has it ever happened to you that you think something is scary, but you actually go and it turns out to be okay? That might be the same experience you'll get with University! My advice would be to give it a shot, and see how it goes. If you go, and think 'Do you know what, this isn't for me', at least you can look back and say you gave it your best shot. If that happens, you certainly won't be the first (or last!) person to have this experience - so try not to fret too much. Starting University is really scary, but you never really know what it's like until you're there.

Hope that's helpful
