College/ uni in America

In the uk once you finish A levels or college (whichever you decide to do) what is the equivalent in America.
Say if you wanted to go to uni in America would it be the same or few years back or forward?

this might sound dumb but I’m confused lol

same, high school qualifications that u'd use to apply to uni in america
y13 in UK = y12 senior in american high school doing AP exams/ SATs etc

ohhh so it’s their last year in y12 and will move on to uni

Yeah but the level of education at Yr 12 is lower than Yr13, same thing with the baccalaureate in france, which basically means that the first year of uni is kinda yr 13 and explains why a bachelors takes 4 yrs
