Hi everyone,

I'm 18 planning on going to uni in September. I have the chance to go to a top 5 uni but I'm going to a lower ranked russel group uni instead to pursue a degree apprenticeship style program in accounting as I think this is the best option for me personally.

In the future though I do have a masters degree or MBA on the agenda just incase I want to change careers or move to a management role one day.

I have decent GCSEs (5A* 5A 1B) and predicted good A levels (3A*s) and I will try as hard to graduate with a first for my chosen degree.

So, my question is, what do top masters programs or MBAs at top unis (LSE, oxbridge, Warwick, Durham, UCL etc.) look for? Is it purely academic pedigree like university name, or do they take other factors into account like career progression or achievement in other areas like sports or entrepeneurship?

Would I struggle to get into a top masters program coming from a mid-russel group uni? Is it common for undergrads outside of the top 10 unis to get on masters programs at top 6 unis?
Thanks

It's about your work primarily. Your undergrad will be 5-10 years in the past by the time you do an MBA. No Masters programme cares about school grades or sports.
