It really depends. I'm assuming finance at LSE, Warwick are going to be tough and pretty heavy on mathematical modelling. However, MechEng will be pretty tough at most unis. You need solid foundation in engineering maths (linear algebra, calculus, dynamics, kinematics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, control theory, etc). My background is in computer science, but for my PhD I had to tackle some engineering stuff (mainly control theory) and while it's tough, it's manageable. If you do a degree in it, you will get the building blocks (unlike me) so it won't be as tough. As long as you like maths, both degrees should be manageable.
