A draft chapter?

I have to have 20 pages written by the end of Semester 1. :colonhash:

Christ Marcus it's not a competition...if it were I might add that I researched and wrote my project in a 40 degrees of heat in a country the other side of the world and in a language I've been speaking for three years. Good luck with your project...

Lol JTM, you're a geek.

Freshers' week 2008 flashback...haha, at least this time I've kind of secured your friendship, so my geekiness can't affect that too much...

I didn't mean to sound competitive Jonny. :colondollar:

For large chunks of mine I'm going to have to use a computer program I've never used before so that will be fun.

Haha, I would like to add that writing a structured and competent critical essay in another language is THE hardest thing in the world. Every single word has to have so much thought behind it! I'd much rather have had 20 pages to write in English! Or 100.
They're both incredible amounts of work - I think I'll leave it at that. :colondollar:

Anywho, I must jolly back to the exciting land that is Dorset today, so I will see you sexy people next year! Chlo, I'm feeling another trip to Poppins like we did at the start of second year yes? :h:

Do numbers count in your word count?

I had a job; I was working 30 hours a week plus going to French class...and I still managed to do it. But it depends on your personality; I'm the kind of person that needs to be kept busy to be productive. My typical uni day for example would be this:

7am-9am Extension classes
9am-11am Free time which I used to do project
11am-1pm Conversation classes
1pm-2pm Lunch
2pm-3pm French class
3pm - 4pm Free time which I used to do project
5pm-7pm Conversation classes
8pm-10pm Salsa

As in, I always had a lot on, but because of that I made the most of my free time to really get my project work done, whereas if I'd only had about 12 hours a week like BC people, I think I'd have been bored and slumped into a state of general unproductivity. In fact I dont think I've ever had such a good work ethic as this year, being given a lot of work has really turned me into a hard-worker...and to think, Mexicans have a rep for being lazy

I guess I'll wait til its been marked though before I start dispensing advice with any confidence...

Oh oh yeah I meant like an internship/job in a company not an assistantship, though come to think of it Kirsten was saying that they don't approve jobs if they don't leave enough time for the YARP so t'isn't really an issue anyways. Thanks

Don't think I want to do Erasmus (Cloop your experience being a bit of a deterrent to say the least, I hope everything gets sorted there!) but being a language assistant sounds good, would you recommend it?

Anyway, rambling as per.

Hehe well just a quick note that I wasn't a British council language assistant, (Nor was cloop erasmus, but same difference  ) - so my conditions were different to those of what you would be going for (in Germany, I assume?) Next year I'll be living with three people who went to Germany, two as assistants and one as Erasmus...and my honest perception from my friends is that Erasmus seems to be a better option...mainly because it seems to be much easier to meet people as a student than as a language student. Then again it depends entirely on your situation and your personality, as I'm sure some BC people will disagree with me. Anyway I'm thinking of doing BC in Germany (!) after I graduate, funnily enough, so I can't think that little of it!! Hehe

Sorry if my advice isn't great; but as much as it's all clumped under one sub-heading of year abroad, that could entail being an Erasmus student in the south of France, a work placement in Austria or volunteering in an orphanage in Peru! There's so much variety!

Do itttt, it'll be good experience for that business you want to do that you were telling me about!
Also, I know this is like a year late, but I dont like that I once had loads of rep and now I have little!

Haha well you can tell how confused I am about how the year abroad works at least then! Of course you were both outside of Europe, ja?

Personally I want a break from university & lectures, so would probs avoid Erasmus for that reason alone. I want to use 3rd year to get work experience in Germany to be honest, whether that is as an assistant or with a German firm.

(BTW can I count on you to do a talk for us 2nd year students on the year abroad please? Though that's one of Jake Carson's main jobs next year, organising the 4th year talk, so he'll probs bother you in Sept/October about it anyways)

This isn't a reference to the year abroad talk thing non? If it is of course I hope you'll talk too! If it isn't ignorez moi.
I hate the way that people graduating get their results done early but if you're in 3rd year and your progression into 4th is conditional you have to wait til july. It can't be that hard to mark 20 extra papers early can it?

Howdy howdy, well yes I completely agree with your "mantra" vis-a-vis work experience, in fact that was another thing that attracted me about the Mexico program, I wanted a break from studying too! So I think you're wise to steer clear of ERASMUS, just be aware that Erasmus folk do tend to make friends very fast and if you go on FB they're the ones that are always going on about how many parties they're going to etc., but they also very often seem to have English friends, which kind of defeats the idea! Basically what I'm saying is BC people or work placement people often have to work a little bit harder to establish a social life (as you would imagine), but I'd think that once you get over that hurdle the year probably is more rewarding than if you were to do Erasmus.

And of course I'll do a talk...I remember in my year there were about ten fourth-years who came and answered questions and stuff, I'd be more than happy to do the same.

Thought I'd break up the languages chat with a 'HI GUYS'.

Home is epicly dull, I'm spending most of the summer at uni.

Does anybody know of well paid weekend work? Preferably not somewhere in West Kuways though i.e. "Hey there, welcome to the beach" (Who am I kidding, Hollister wouldn't have me greeting, I'd be dressed as a ninja secretly restocking outrageously expensive clothing from behind the spotlights).

Trago Lounge were advertising for staff recently, you could try there?
Clowns/J*s were advertising a few weeks back too James!

Both interesting avenues! Ideally I wouldn't mind long hours to earn some dollar but there are definitely perks to being J*s bar staff!
