Haha, I apologise for my giddiness today! You should have come to say hello :-D Also, I am a giant, it's even worse on night's out where I am forced to wear 4 inch heels.. Woe is my life.
Was moving guys in from 8am-6pm with no break, can't believe the ambassadors got DOUBLE PAY for it (£14 an HOUR) when they did buggerall, there was only 3 Glen Reps left at 4pm....
Welcome Party 2 was great until the fire alarm went off at half 12...
Then I had to look after one of the Glen JCR because she was HAMMERED.
Also JTM, I have JUST realised what your avatar is. Omg. Has it always been that? I bought a toy one on Friday! He even has a bike
Always! Since my subbing days, which are pre-uni now (summer of '08!), hence the fact that it's big! Don't really know why I even chose it to be honest, but I like the fact he freaks people out.

Happy sunday everyone!
How tall are you? Foam party at Sobar was poor tbh.

Student Ambassadors don't get double pay for this weekend - dunno where you heard that from. Just the £7ph for us.
At monte the reps were doing **** all and the ambassadors kept having to ask them to help - then about 6 of them would mob one car and then leave others completely alone, it wasn't going well.... monte JCR got heavily criticised yesterday.
Also, why on the only day for ages that I don't have to wake up early, have I woken up at 6am?

Apologies for that, think it was a JCR that told us.
We got really annoyed with our JCR because they just seemed to stand there on their phones (with one or two exceptions) and leave the reps to get everyone in.
We turned up and had no direction from them or the ambassadors at all which was great, and then there were only 3 of us left after 3pm with hordes of guys still moving in. And then we kept being asked about the Glen JCR packs, so I had to pass on a load of hearsay (fortunately it turned out to be true).
Then at Glen bar there was no security until 10pm, so me and one of the other head reps had the task of trying to stop people leaving the bar with drinks - yay - a job we were told about 10 minutes before we had to start.
The annoying thing is, the lessons the JCR will learn are irrelevant because the guys next year will be exactly the same!

Yeah, that's sadly the way with the JCR... not to belittle their efforts or anything but for such a well known committee they're often completely useless and don't do much/anything to improve the university. I don't remember hearing from our JCR after freshers week when I was a fresher.
Also, the ambassadors don't feel like we can tell everyone else what to do because they're volunteers. We're there working so we report to our supervisor but she's not in charge of everyone on the whole site. I think that they should make that the case to be honest because it would be better - at least the reps would know a bit more about what to do. Again actually, it's always an intern who organises move in weekend so there's not that continuity which allows improvements to be made. What can you do with uni admin eh?!

Haha yeah.
The only other people still there when myself (and the two reps I was with) left were the Endsleigh Insurance people, and all the Freshers kept asking them about JCR packs first before being directed towards us.
I have one more day of ambassador work on tuesday and then the rest of this week is just bits and bobs like the bunfight and committee meetings here there and everywhere!

I agree with this! The Reps and JCR at Monte did nada, and I was actually embarrassed. The CU and the ambassadors did so much, if it wasn't for them nothing would have got done! Jenny, the head amb. was also a big big help, and managed to get some of the reps off their arses. As an ex-JCR, I couldn't believe their lack of doing.. anything! Nice people, they really are, and I really like a lot of them personally, but they didn't do their job, and it made me really mad!

Ouch! I think people don't realise the amount of work and effort we actually have to put in.. It's a shame
Yeah, I've gotta go print off looooooads of photos today ready for a committee meeting tomorrow, bunfight on Weds, presentation at two Fresher inductions on Thurs then my own re-induction on Friday.
Also repping at the UV rave at Glen tonight, Glamourpuss on Weds and Glen silent disco on Friday as well as a couple more events next week.
Luckily I've done a lot of the Sports Officer side of things already - organised a load of friendlies and recruited a couple of Freshers already.
The CU were fantastic, I have to give them credit - although we seemed to have all fairly small girls so I was often helping them move the heavier stuff (especially to higher floors).
Some of our JCR were really good - Brendan, Emma and Ellie in particular - but some just spent the whole time chatting to each other or on their phones, and some were guilty of 'only moving in fit people'.

Yeah, I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into running any committee but at the end of the day most students come out of halls saying that the JCRs didn't do anything past freshers week. If that's what people feel like after the year then either the JCRs have been doing loads but not transferring it across to the students effectively or they just haven't done anything. Maybe you guys need to have someone specifically on committee for publication (or maybe you do and they're crap?).
To be honest, I don't really understand JCRs but I guess that's from a somewhat negative halls experience. I really didn't get on with my flatmates - I was effectively bullied by them (not that I particularly cared at that point so I just kept myself to myself). For me, and I expect a lot of other, halls was my room and that's where I slept. If I wanted to socialise I'd go to any of my other societies where I had friends and that was done. I just tried to avoid being in my flat to be honest and socialising with them was the last thing that I wanted to do!
