Perfect description :-)

ChilliWhites is good on a Saturday, though more of a local scene than it would be on a Friday! However, it is a bit classier than the usual night out, and not tooooo expensive!

Junk is generally very specialised on a Saturday; a lot of house music. And maybe a few druggies. Haha.

Cafe Parfait is a new popular place to go on a Saturday.. Though it can be quite expensive! It is quite dressed up and more of a Solent-y type of place :-)

Rhino is newly re-opened, and is trying to make its name so lots of promotions and drink deals.. Decent music, nice staff. Quite big!

Hope this has helped!

Thanks a lot, perfect reply .Now the question is which one to go to. Do you know anything about entry costs to any of these places as I would like to maybe visit more than one if it's not too expensive.

If you're talking about avoiding druggies then I wouldn't recommend Café Parfait either - the reason it was 'shut down' before (as White House) was because the owner was convicted of cocaine dealing.

Were you allowed to use it? Might try using it at lunch one day...

Ummm I havent actually tried yet! I was hoping for it to be a bit more hidden away and not right in front of the exit and in clear view of 8 or so cashiers! :frown: lol

I don't know if it's any good, but there's one right near where I live (down where Brickfield Road meets Portswood Road, about 5-10 mins down the back of the library)

Ok, thanks. I'll look for it today.

Sorry, could you confirm that it's Afro-Caribbean (as in, most of the clientele is black)? That's a bit important for me.

I'm 99% certain it says 'Afro-Caribbean' on the front of the shop.

If that one is no good then for a strictly Afro-Caribbean one you'd need to be looking in the City centre.

That's great.

Just in case anyone's wondering: As I'm black, it's a bit awkward explaining to a "hair stylist" what is meant when I say I need a fade and a shave. Also, Afro-Caribbean barbershops give cheaper haircuts.
Yeah, black people's hair is a lot different to white people's hair in it's nature. I imagine that makes it very hard to cut if you don't know what you're doing. Definitely go for the afro-caribbean place!

Ok.. I will give estimates as I can't remember 100%..

As I remember, CP is £5, Chilli White is 4, Junk is 4 (depending on who is DJing) and I'm not sure about Rhino, but would guess around the same... Don't quote me on any of those though please haha.

Also, Cafe Parfait is not somewhere full of drugs! Yeah, they have a Shisha bar, but the clientele are not a druggy bunch!
I have no idea how Cloop knows so much about club nights when she's been away for a year...I'm in the same boat and I can barely remember the name of our student union.

Although I've heard you should all go to see Jaguar Skills tomorrow in The Cube
Jaguar Skills is a must-see - saw him at Orange Rooms last year and he was fantastic!

I wanted to go and see Jack Beats last week but I was Fresher-repping. :cry2:

Talking of haircuts, is the shine place unisex?

I had my hair done there last year, so yes!

Occasionally they'll offer free haircuts from their training staff (always worth asking), otherwise it's about £15 which is about double what I pay at home. :erm:

Ahh ok thanks! £15!?! will have to ask about the free ones, if they say no it'll be a quick escape:colondollar:

Are there any decent places in town (which are relatively cheap)? I'm not looking for any uber trendy places, just a decent barber.

(seriously testing the local know on this thread now!)

That's the only place I've ever had mine cut, though I've heard good things about Oscar's in Portswood. :yy:

This has been moved to next week btw
There's this place called fifi on portswood road, kinda near caroline's tshirts which does £15 wash, cut and blowdry for girls... it's great because they're all polish so they don't talk to you which is exactly what I want in a hairdresser!

Haha, it is when literally all they're doing is cutting a bit of hair off - I'm not so metrosexual that I need layering/colouring or anything like that!
