Yeah, but to be fair, I just wanted to know when we'd get our ****ing budget which sparked off a lot of debate. Now it seems: never.

Also I've been a departmental society treasurer and they don't usually do too much so don't need the budget. We hardly spent anything. The society I'm currently on need as much money as we can get. Having gone from apparently the highest spending society last year to having no budget at all this year we're in a bit of a pickle. And don't you even start on us doing fundraising - we already do, so much of it!

What society, just out of interest?

SSAGO - scouts and guides.

Also, I would be interested to know of any societies who actually did get funding. If the CU got some I will be fairly unimpressed.
Guys, i'm in the process of looking for accommodation for next year. I was just wondering what was so bad about St Marys and St Denys. A lot of estate agents seem to slag off those areas, but those who have no properties left in Highfield seem to try and flog what's left in St Marys and St Denys. Is it quite bad?
They're both quite out of the way really. St Mary's very much so and St Denys is a good half hour walk to uni. Depends if you like what you see enough to go there. There's still a lot of housing around and will be for a long time so don't worry if you can't find a house this very second.

There's definitely enough housing it's just that there are 10 of us and so we're looking for homes next to each other which is quite hard to find

We found a little quiet street after we got stood up by two of the estate agents, and the estate agent had 3 homes free there costing £85pppw which is quite a lot but the again the houses look like this:

and there is no car access into the street so it's lovely and peaceful, yet a few minutes walk from the uni. It's perfect. Hopefully they can cut the rent down to £68pppw if we convince them to let us use the lounge as a fifth bedroom
£85 a week? Good luck!
But if it gets turned from a four into a five bedroom, the price may get lowered. We have seen some good homes for £70-£80 per week, but we can't find two next to each other or near each other that we all like apart from these.

Gunna be honest... As a student, who cares what your house looks like? You could be on one for 60 a week, that's £100 less a month.. Think what you could buy with £100 a month
I wish I had moved into some of the other houses I had seen for an extra £5-7 a week. Whilst we all have big bedrooms, the tiny kitchen/bathroom is incredibly annoying, not to mention the lack of a proper lounge. Also it's always an ice cube these days, though I expect that's the same for all student houses.
All I'm going to say is never go with cryers. They are an absolute pile of ****. Whenever someone comes around our house for a viewing I will tell them not to come to cryers.
I'm technically with Repulink but they do bugger all apart from protect our deposit, we only actually deal with the landlord but, despite being v. forgetful, his heart's in the right place and the house is really good.
It's very, very difficult to find two houses next to each other, especially that you'll agree on.

Is it really such a necessarily big deal?

My house at the moment is £62 p/w, which is an absolute bargain for what it is and where it is - the only annoying thing is the walk all the way up Welbeck every morning
I think finding two houses on the same road would be doable and good enough for two houses of friends. Alternatively you could try to find a block of flats and take up a few floors. One of my friends did that last year and it worked nicely for her!
Had the discussion with my friends this morning. Hmm yes I certainly do understand Cloop's point. I guess I would care more for the £100 extra a month then having a house that looks good for a year.

After searching hard this morning, we've found a couple of more suitable homes. There are still many 4/5/6 bedroom properties to rent on Gordon avenue which is not bad. We've now decided to start looking for houses along the same street as each other.

Does anyone have any experience with studnofee? They seem to have many houses next to each other and quite near the uni so may look into them.

I was with StudentNoFee in second year and I've only got good things to say about them.

We had a house on Alma Road that was nothing short of amazing for the amount we paid for rent (£75 pppw, 7 of us) and they're very good at maintaining the property/ensuring everything is right before you move in.

If you do your research about what you can/can't ask your landlord/letting agent to do, you won't have any problems.

Thanks. I phoned them up and for the first time in years I heard the dial up internet tone  I phoned their mobile and they now only have 2 properties with more than 4 bedrooms left as the majority went in the past week. Hopefully some groups drop out and so more will become available as they do look spectacular!

Crap, are you sure? My mates and I were planning at looking at some of their properties and there's 6 of us :s-smilie:

Most of what is left is near portswood and most things near the uni of 6 bedrooms or more have been taken.

Got 2 viewings to go to today. Hopefully the sun stays out unlike wednesday.
Some people randomly came down to our house to have a look around last night. Dunno how they knew our house was for rent as we don't have a sign outside. I am suspicious. Also, forgot that there was a viewing in my house today. Will have to remember to lock my door.

How come you dislike Cryers so muuuch? We went through them (not my choice!), and I don't love them, but just wondered why you would advise people against?

So today, we have "viewings between 9am - 6pm". So sweet of them to be so specific!
