Fire DRILL at 1am...really? Why would anyone think that was a good idea is beyond me!
Was it really a drill or did some **** set off the alarm?

Nope it was a drill. They had the people in the orange vests and stuff outside waiting for us to come out. It was quite funny that when we returned, we smelt burning from our kitchen as we were out for about 20 minutes and someone had put pizza in the oven at that time of night and forgot to turn off the oven during the evacuation so when we got back we were happy that the fire alarm didn't go off for that little incident!

Funny story about a fire alarm that happened in Connaught last week. Apparently someone sprayed deodorant in the direction of the fire alarm to kill a fly that was on it and set it off xD

Yeah I was there for that but I'm not gonna name and shame *cough* F-block *cough* but that's the last one we've had for a while.
The only time we ever have fire alarms is when next door set their alarm off when they're smoking pot (so, quite regularly!)
Do they not know the condom/t-shirt/sock trick??? If not they are failing at being people who regularly smoke weed.
Are exam mark schemes on SUSSED as I can't seem to find them along with the exam papers?

There aren't usually any mark schemes released as far as I know.

They are idiots (and solent students).
I was only around for one fire alarm/drill last year (our block had loads, I was just lucky enough to not be there for them) and my main memory was being amazed at how many people came stumbling down in their PJs that I didn't recognise haha.

Considering this was late March and there were only 54 people living in my block I was amazed that I didn't even recognise about 5 people who I'd apparently been living in very close proximity with for 6 months xD
By the way guys, my house is having a bit of a tiff about Council Tax, half of us think we don't need to produce our council tax exemption forms until AFTER we've got a bill from the council, the other half (me included) are pretty sure we should have applied for council tax exemption already, and shouldn't be waiting for the bill/notification.

A friend of ours who's mother is a property lawyer said that if we wait until we get the notification from the council it can be extremely difficult to get out of it.

So anyway, can anyone help settle the argument either way?

You ought to all get your forms together, then if you get any kind of notification from the council you can just take them down to the civic centre straight away.
Not sure what the legality is but basically this is what happened in our house.

1) got a letter from the council asking who was living at the property and what their status was and asking to prove it.
2) returned letter telling who lived in the house and what their status was and told the council that I would send in exemption letters when we got them in October
3) returned exemption letters in October and informed the council that one of my housemates had dropped out of uni so wasn't exempt
4) the council were fine with us and have begun pursuing other housemate for council tax.

You should have had the initial letters so really, the council are waiting for your exemption. I'm sure that if you provide exemption after the tax bill it won't matter really as your exemption letter should show 'student from july 11- june 12' and that's the period your exempt for. Obviously I don't know the law on this but the gov are usually good about backdating things and so on. Anyway, I would just sort it out as frankly it seems no point in waiting. Just get the letter from your school, scan it and email it to the southampton council tax people (email on their website)... if you're concerned about it and the others are still not willing to budge then there's no reason why you can't supply the council with your own personal exemption now and then let everyone else sort their bit it out when the bill comes through. Council tax is a personal thing, even if you're living in a shared house (which is odd but hey!)
Hmmm okay thanks guys, thing is as far as we know we've had no correspondence from the council at all, but then again we didn't live in the house over summer as it was being refurbished.

Maybe I'll speak to my landlord to find out if he knows anything about it, and then yeah just submit my form.

Danke

Aha, that was on my surge show this morning!
I feel so left out now I can't join in with the uni chat any more :frown:
I'm off home tomorrow.

My room's a mess because I've had no time to tidy it, what with courseworks and sport taking up all my time, and I have an hour to pack some stuff now before I go and see Nicola.
