Thought Man Utd were completely outplayed by Man City in the FA Cup final.

The penalty Man Utd were gifted by VAR was ridiculous too. Not a penalty and if the rules say it was, the rules are wrong and need fixing.

Also made me laugh that KDB didn't get a penalty which was more of a foul!

Agreed, examples of where rules come really unstuck.

I saw the path United had to the final, all home games against mediocre opposition, aside from Brighton which was 50/50 anyway. Almost the same in the league cup too, made me think it's really not much of an achievement if they won both, since they just had a lucky year with fixtures. That said, definitely a step forward from last season. Let's see if it continues.

Few genuine world class starts. Rashford is just good and the rest of the squad is painfully average with no obvious low hanging fruit in terms of areas to improve, it could all use an upgrade.

OGS would literally have done that. Ten Haag is a fairly mediocre manager and not exaclty young, he has 10 years in this game now.
So Utd are going absolutely nowhere. Next year, my prediction is 5th or 6th.

I mean it's Man City winning every year anyway and everyone else basically competing for 2nd and downwards.
The history books don't show who you played, just the trophies lifted.

Expectations always go up a bit then manager gets sacked and they start the cycle again. They've not really improved in the last decade. Although OGS was a bit unfortunate that the toxic Ronaldo show turned up.

5th is good enough next season as that qualifies you for the CL.

Pretty much. But Utd dont really seem to be "building" anything at all. There is no clear pattern of play which is exciting, no particularly young squad, no manager who can grow into being close to Pep(Ten Hag has been around for a decade achieivng very little in truth), no obvious areas to upgrade(maybe GK but the rest of the team isnt clear). Fairly old squad. The team regularly doesnt turn up for the manager so its not as if they are strong peronsalities either at the group level.

OGS was just average to poor but as you say, he was very unlucky with Ronaldo arriving. He would have got top 4 again, but I struggle to understand why Ten Hag is getting so much credit for what OGS would easily have done. I feel as if this is very much Utd throwing their hands up in the air at it all and the fans seeing an awful lot in Ten Hag which just isnt there. He will never be a top manager will he. Few league cup wins, maybe a Euro run and maximum and I mean maximum 3rd in league. Glory glory man utd?


And before anyone says it, I think Arteta is becomming overrated but we are obviousy on a very strong upwards trajectory with a clear pattern of play, the youngest squad in league and clear areas to improve upon. But I do think we will get maybe 3rd next year (depending on Liverpool basically).
