I Am Offering this Poem

I am offering this poem to you,
since I have nothing else to give.
Keep it like a warm coat
when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through,

I love you,

I have nothing else to give you,
so it is a pot full of yellow corn
to warm your belly in winter,
it is a scarf for your head, to wear
over your hair, to tie up around your face,

I love you,

Keep it, treasure this as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
in the wilderness life becomes when mature;
and in the corner of your drawer,
tucked away like a cabin or hogan*
in dense trees, come knocking,
and I will answer, give you directions,
and let you warm yourself by this fire,
rest by this fire, and make you feel safe

I love you,

It’s all I have to give,
and all anyone needs to live,
and to go on living inside,
when the world outside
no longer cares if you live or die;

remember,

I love you.

The sun has burst the sky

The sun has burst the sky
Because I love you
And the river its banks.

The sea laps the great rocks
Because I love you
And takes no heed of the moon dragging it away
And saying coldly ‘Constancy is not for you’.

The blackbird fills the air
Because I love you
With spring and lawns and shadows falling on lawns.

The people walk in the street and laugh
I love you
And far down the river ships sound their hooters
Crazy with joy because I love you.

In ‘I Am Offering this Poem’, how does the poet present the speaker’s feelings about love? [24 marks]

In both ‘The sun has burst the sky’ and ‘I Am Offering this Poem’ the speakers describe their feelings about love.
What are the similarities and/or differences between the methods the poets use to present these feelings? [8 marks]

Can someone give me ideas that will get me max marks for both question or make a model answer please.

Instead of asking other people to do your homework for you, why not present your ideas on here to be critiqued?

💀 I’m
Sorry this is so funny

I haven’t done it in ages I got a 8 for Lang and what helped me the most was looking at full mark answers using the exam board website and asking my teacher for some too and then look at where they picked up the marks

Good luck xx
