holy crap! I hope its all been sorted out. ive got a fire wall and antivirus up and running but i wouldnt use an un-secure connection for banking or anything personal
my budget doesnt consider internet usage but i guess its ok going 12 floors down to the common room
btw - daltor tower people, we should be getting a tv in the common room soon to replace that oversized flower pot and plant (which i assume is fake but i dont wanna touch it and find out because everyone in the room will think wtf )
Nah the virus came in through the un-secure connection and remained there while I was doing internet banking!
Your budget doesn't consider internet usage?! Mine's £15 a month

The only time I've ever been in the TV lounge is when I went to collect my keys on the first day. Nobody else in the flat uses it either lol! I like the way someone complained at the end of our induction lecture about not having a TV though ... was that you? I've got a decent sized high-def tv in my room anyway and I can watch whatever I want to without having to sit through what other people want to watch!
I think you should come in drunk one night and start feeling up the plant! Then again, you might not remember in the morning whether its fake or not!

lol!!! sometimes i randomly connect to all unsecure connections that i pick up from my room, hoping that one of them will get the net for me!!
im still hoping that one will come along ....
Over here in block B we can connect to Aston-General-Access (W-ISA) ... the one that serves the TV Lounge and ground floor offices. It's more reliable than Keysurf tbh.
They also say that your not allowed to use your Keysurf account for more than 24 hours in any one day, so I hope nobody takes those things seriously!
Thats another reason why keysurf is such a rip off that clause is there because you are only allowed one connection at a time. If you had two computers connected for 13 hours then you are breaching there terms and conditions.
However you can't do this anyway as the router they supply only allows one connection as the ip address is issued by them and determined by the MAC of your network hardware. If you unplug one pc and plug in another it will won't allow you to log in for half an hour as the new pc will have a different network card and therefore be issued with a different ip address. Only way around this is would be to spoof your MAC.
Does anyone know how they can justify only allowing you to connect one pc at a time when they charge 30 a and a 20 connection fee which is more than you would pay anywhere else, 25 with bt, cable even cheaper?
Erm ..... mobile broadband isn't really a viable alternative for people who use the internet a lot because of the download limits. It's still ridiculously expensive for what it is anyway.
