Anyway this is all rather academic, perhaps even hypothetical, as being accepted by the likes of Oxford is extremely difficult.

I dunno, I've been accepted twice now... :p:

Socrates why you are on the button! To tell the truth, I am surprised that someone from Oxford can't infer meaning from the above statement nor use their imagination. Still you guys have a combined posting total of 35,000+ so I had better not upset the establishment.

What does location have to do with it? You do have a rather odd way of expressing yourself, though (no offence).

The Oriel Historian stated that he/she has been accepted twice by Oxford and thus I am inferring that being (or at one time was) an Oxford student then Oriel 'comes from Oxford'. Ye olde English has been obliterated by all this Bebo speak (no offence).

Anyone else in the process of applying for postgraduate study at Oxford? What is the chances of an interview being requested?

It varies between departments, I think. Mine doesn't interview at all.

Edit: By the way, OH isn't in Oxford - he turned them down the second time.

I'm doing my masters here this year and from my experience (the people I've met), final marks are not that important at all. Obviously most people who are here will have a decent undergraduate degree but there a few who didn't even complete their undergraduate degree and still got in!
Everyone I have met so far has a very interesting background though, dual nationalities, lived in various different countries as well as having unusual interests or hobbies.
Obviously this is specific to postgraduates but I'd say it is very important that you can show that you like to get involved and have done things that are just a little bit different..

I'm applying for the BPhil in Philosophy. Haven't applied just yet as I'm holding out for a completed third year piece of work to submit with my application.

Hi

I am thinking on applying to some major Universities of UK for 2009/2010, and Oxford is on the top of the list. I am from Portugal and I´m having some difficulties in understanding how exactly the process to apply to UK universities works. Am I supposed to speak firstly to the department I am interested in studing and question them if they are insterested in having me working with them for a PhD, in case I am accepeted, before I make the application to the University? Or should I only contact them after being accepted by the University? Not exactly sure how the all process works.

About the English tests (required for non english native speakers) do I have to have them done before i apply? Or can this be done after being accepted?

If you think this is not the rigth topic for this questions please let me know which one is.

I would appreciate all you help!
Thanks
