Hi all,

Got a question on the application of the MFE program (did a google search on this site but no answer, hope i am not missing something but sorry for the repost if someone asked before) - for the section "Hobbies, Interests, and Achievements", are we supposed to write in bullets points or essay form? The question is "Please List below your hobbies, interests, and achievements and any clubs or societies of which you are currently a member." and the available character limit is 7,900, which is like 1,000 words?! The character limit is telling me that they want an essay, but the question itself sounds like a bullet point one.

Thanks for all the inputs in advance.

Personally I think you can put it in bullet points just to give the name of the position. You then add a little paragraph describing what the role involved. And you do that in categories like: hobbies, ECs etc...

Guys question, when you received your offers did you first get the email than the letter a few days later?

Am asking this coz I am so anxious, my app got sent off with full references n everything at the beg of January and I still havent got a response from Ox for the MSc in Applied Statistics.

Thanks

I got an e-mail the day after my interview and a month later, my letter. But I live in the US, so posting time should be considered.

I keep being asked by tutors - might start wearing a sign saying "DO NOT ask me about Oxford - I don't bloody know" :woo:
So is it certain then that the ones who have applied before the Jan deadline, but after the Nov one will receive an answer by the 20th of March, somebody mentionned 15th up there so what is it?

I know good things come to those who wait but damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
I was told 20th March by the History department and the guidelines for applicants say that Jan applicants will know by 20th March.

I had an interview two weeks ago too and haven't heard anything, thinking that must be a bad sign unless anyone wants to give me hope :s-smilie:
I heard the same from them today. They wouldn't even let me tell them my app no. ! Goldsmiths and UCL gave me their decisions on the phone.

So that leaves just Oxford. Just. Oxford.:woo:

Hi there
I'm currently in my second year at Birmingham University, and thinking of applying for an MSc at Oxford next year... Just wanted to ask some current applicants some questions to get an idea on what my chances would be....

The course I want to apply for is Integrated Biosciences (I'm studying BSc Biological Sciences), I achieved a 1st grade last year, and am on course for a similar result this year *fingers crossed*. My A level results were AAB and GCSEs where a mix (hopefully these are not considered too heavily?)
I have various work experience outside my degree related to field biology, and am very enthusiastic about my course! The reason I want to complete the MSc is to consolidate my skills and knowledge in order to carry out a pHD in the future....

I was wondering what sort of chances I have, how much they take A levels and GCSEs into consideration with the MSc application, what the interview is like? And also if it would be possible to apply directly for a DPhil (or whether an MSc is required?)

Thanks!

You don't even have to put your GCSE and A-level results on the application form so I wouldn't worry about that. Plus when you get to postgrad level, they seriously mean naff all

The best advice would be to check the entry requirements of the DPhil. That will say whether they expect candidates to have a relevent MSc before applying.
sigh *joins in the twiddling*

it would be fine if it were just me waiting but i also have my partner needing to change jobs to fit in with wherever i get in (not fun in the current climate and makes me feel v guilty) and it's all a bit stressful! am at the stage where i just want to know, good or bad, so i can plan my life!

Yes and no. My STEPs and A-levels were definitely a factor. In some subjects they may not be.

I got questions/devil's-advocate-criticism about the A levels I took in my Cambridge interview (obviously not Oxford, but you know what I mean...). If it helps, I know about equal numbers of biologists going off to do DPhils/PhDs with and without Masters of whatever kind. I would also suggest that, while you apply for the Biosciences programme, if you spot any DPhils/PhDs that take your eye, apply for those as well, as you might strike lucky and save yourself a year and a lot of money!
Where is the person who got the M.St offer? Seems to have disappeared without answering all our questions :P

Is there any point in emailing Oxford to ask if a decision has been made or should I just be patient? (Or assume that no news is bad news?)
