They don't answer any questions. You call them and they say "wait, did you apply for the January deadline?" if you say yes, then its a "wait till march end".

Hey, why doesn't someone call and say i applied for the Nov deadline? Oh well, I have to stop being a baby.

There's no November deadline for English, though, is there?

None, but MAYBE the person on the phone will not remember that at the time.

MSc Applied Statistics...

What makes it worse is knowing that they had 140 applications last year, it is bugger all compared to other departments like English or something...

140 apps for how many places? Btw, where did you get these stats?
140 apps for 40 places. Got it off the statistics department website i think.

I've had a dig around on the website, and I found one instance where they say that college decisions can take up to eight weeks after department decisions, so even if you applied for the November deadline (as I did) you probably won't hear until towards the end of this month. A friend who's at Oxford this year says it took ages in his case too.

It is excruciating though...

A departmental decision would be good enough for now...
I dont see why people freak out about their college decision, what matters is that you are in!

Because as soon as you are in, you need something else to fuss and worry about.

140 is nothing - there were 190 applicants last year (took on 80) for what I've applied to do and I wouldn't be surprised it's jumped this year given the changes in funding and the fact no-one wants to be the in job market.

Think college decision is just a bonus, at least you'll know the post won't be bad news as you have to be accepted by A college. It's not like you've got to wait another 8 weeks to be told no-one wants to take you.

But I'm nowhere near that stage as yet.

*cough* 190 applicants for 80 places means a significantly higher success rate than 140 applicants for 40 places, actually...:p:
