I applied for the Jan 23 term, M.St. Classical Archaeology... I was so nervous from that date up to now... :eek3:
Got my letter today, with an OFFER (under conditions)!!!! :woo:
Never felt happier!!!
Just curious, I am among the first to get a letter I suppose, while living in the Netherlands so it has probably been sent a few days ago...

Congratulations

Well it's getting closer subject wise to mine anyway. Only a week to go :woo:

So let me get this straight, you do have a UK passport and you are a UK citizen, probably with British parents as well, but just because you didn't study for your undergrad in the UK you're required to pay international fees? (where is it that you did study btw?)

Hey there!

I am sorry - probably I did put it in a wrong way previously.

Just a quick clarification: Neither do I have a UK passport nor any of my parents is British! I am a purely international student from a South Asian country! However, I am studying in the UK for my undergrad degree (which might have confused you). Thus it's obvious that I'll have to pay as per international fees.

Tough luck.. higher education and research really seems starved of cash..

I 100% agree with you - fingers crossed on this comment!

Do they promise to inform you by March 20 or to send out a letter by that date. If it is the latter, we might need to wait for 1 1/2 weeks

According to the guidelines, it says applicants will know by the 20th. It better not take another week and a half as I won't be at uni (which is where my post is coming to at the moment)

Oh, I see. Just out of interest, for your first degree, did you qualify for student loans or that would be again just for UK students?

Only UK and EU students are eligible for student loans, and the latter can only get the tuition fee loan, but not the maintenance loan (unless they've been living in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of their courses).

Thanks. So EU students are eligible (a loan paying for the fees is better than nothing).

This whole thing with top-up fees though.. this guy I know started his undergrad degree at Oxford the year just before the fees were introduced and everything has been paid for him. (Granted, he does have three siblings, but they are not poor at all. Then again, Hungarian salaries are not on a par with British ones, but I imagine that wouldn't make much of a difference today.)

Hi Wholenewworld!

I didn't qualify for any student loan from any bank in the UK. It's pretty obvious since international students like me don't have a flourishing bank balance or high credit score that would guarantee the on time (or any time!) repayment. Another funny fact is that those banks don't have the faith on international students and they are scared of the likelihood for students to leave the UK as soon as they receive their degrees!

However, I qualified for student loans from couple of banks that are located in my home country. I hope it helps!

Completing my bachelors at 65 or above... I hope that won't put me off! I'm not even sure how this translates to the Dutch grading system (there are no official guidelines to that)... and of course I have to give proof of my funding but that is all part of the college procedure.
But should I fail the conditions, even then it really makes me happy that I sort of passed the admissions round!

Hi,

I have an offer for a funded Phd at oxford. The application form was not the same as the university/college extremly long! graduate application form, and I only filled the graduate form in last week after I recieved my offer.

I was wondering if anyone new how long it would be before I hear from any colleges?

Thats good, well done they must have liked you! :yep: My friends who have applied to cambridge have been getting offers of a min of 68 (which is almost a 1st)

I guess Cambridge has a standard that is just a little higher than Oxford's, Cambridge requires a TOEFL score of 110 and Oxford just 109... bastards!

Is that a huge difference? I'm not familiar with the TOEFL...we usually use IELTS back home.

It's not huge but it's typical  The maximum score is 120 so it's just that you can't afford one mistake less..
I applied to the Modern Languages department before the Jan 23 deadline. This week when I still hadn't heard back about the status of my application, I emailed. Today I received a reply stating only that my letter has been sent. Does this general response mean I've not been accepted? I wonder if I had been accepted, would the graduate studies administrator have said otherwise? Thanks for your input!
Anxiously Wondering

Could be either - judging by the emails I've had back from both the Graduate Studies office and my own subject departmental office, they're not obliged to tell you either way regarding whether you've got an offer or rejection.

So it could be either; best of luck
Got an email saying I will receive an answer by next week. Also asking me to confirm my change from the dip to the msc.

Hey you are lucky your department e-mails! The English department seems satisfied with mailing methods from the Renaissance period from the sound of things.
